Confused about Deep Plane Facelift. Will it correct the nasolabial folds and corners of the mouth?

Hello dear doctors When I search the internet, all plastic surgeons say that The Deep Plane Facelift corrects both nasolabial folds and the corners of the mouth. The other day I consulted one of my country's supposedly most skilled plastic surgeons, but also the most expensive. She says that the Deep Plane Facelift does not help in these areas, but fat grafting is necessary, as is a special lifting procedure of the corners of the mouth. What on earth am I supposed to believe?

Hello, hope you are well. The deep plane facelift was developed to lift the midface and improve the laxity of the nasolabial folds. There may be limitations in what can be achieved depending on the parties involved (patient anatomy and surgeon's skill), but if the surgery is executed properly some degree of improvement should be expected. Having said that, in some cases, fat grafting is helpful to obtain the best result. Likewise, a corner lip lift can augment the results of the deep plane lift.

Thank you for your question.  So a deep plane facelift should lift help nasolabial folds and some of the corner of the mouth (not as much there) when the tissue is adequately released.  Fat grafting may need to be done as an adjunct for very deep lines.  Hope this helps, all the best

Thank you for your question. If you look on the internet at before and after images showing results of deep plane facelift in the hands of experienced surgeons, you will notice that the nasolabial folds and the corners of the mouth change relatively little.

When the corners of the mouth appear to be coming down significantly, it is often because of visibility of the labiomandibular lines. The labiomandibular lines are significantly improved by deep plane facelift.

I think the surgeon that you have consulted has explained correctly that lifting the corner of the mouth in a more precise manner generally requires a different procedure, but also one that often has to involve some visible scars at the corner of the upper lips, which is not necessarily what every patient would agree to.

If deep plane face and neck lift is performed correctly, it is useful in reducing the wrinkles in the nasolabial region, but it does not provide a hundred percent solution. Sometimes, there are cases that we support with fat injection.

The Surgeon that you consulted with is correct: a deep plane facelift will not eliminate nasolabial folds but usually improves them.  I am not a big fan of fat grafting, but other options do exist to address the NL folds, if indicated. Attempts at effacement of these folds with a facelift will lead to widening the corners of the mouth, which is extremely undesirable.
