What are the options to diminish smoker lines (vertical lip lines) and 2 small scars around the mouth?

Thank you for your question. It is difficult to make an accurate assessment and recommendations based on photographs alone. I recommend you seek an in-person consultation with a facial plastic surgeon or plastic surgeon who can perform a thorough examination and recommend the best treatment options to address your goals. There are a variety of treatment options to help improve the appearance of smoker lines as well as scars in the perioral region. Filler can help fill in deeper smoker lines. Skin resurfacing procedures such as laser resurfacing, chemical peels, and microneedling can help improve skin texture and appearance in this area. If the scars are raised, they can also be further improved by steroid or other anti inflammatory injections.

A combination of Botox and filler can be used to improve "smoker lines."  As for the scars, it depends on the type of scar.  If they are indented, then sometimes filler can be used.  Sometimes an additional revision surgery can help.  It all depends on the look of the scar.  I would recommend seeing a facial plastic surgeon in consultation regarding these issues, to determine which approach would be best.

You have many options. For the vertical/smoker's lines, a little botox can help, but if the lines are present at rest, I'd definitely add a filler. Laser resurfacing (e.g. ProFractional laser, etc) can also be quite helpful and would help the scars around your mouth. Microneedling +/- platelet rich plasma (PRP) can also help. For stubborn scars, sometimes just cutting them out (surgical scar revision) is not a bad idea. Best to chat with and get properly assessed by a highly trained and experienced physician such as a dermatologist to optimize results and safety.

There are many options to address these bothersome "smokers lines' or "lipstick lines". These lines are caused by multiple factors including age, repetitive lifestyle habits, genetics and in some individuals, smoking. Hyaluronic acid fillers, a small amount of Botox, Microdermabrasion, chemical peels, topical creams such as retinoids,and micro-needling with radio-frequency (Fractora) can all be effective options. These bothersome lines are very treatable, and in the hands of an experienced operator or master aesthetician, are easily correctable. Don't worry! If one option doesn't work, another is always available. Don't give up by any means.

The answer is to use HAE fillers and also consider a chemical peel, We specifically prefer Restylane Lyft injected perpendicular to the vertical lines as well as treating directly within the vertical line if deep enough.Regards,S. Randolph Waldman, MD

There are many options including lasers, microneedling, and demabrasion. An in person evaluation is the only way to find out. 

Hello and thank you for you question. I like using Volbella for smokers lines. I will sometimes inject Botox as well in very minimal amounts around the mouth. I also use a series of Skin Pen treatments to diminish the smokers lines. Same goes for the scars.

A photo would be helpful but we see enough of these to give you the general assessment. First of all if they are really from smoking , stop smoking. These lines often appear in non-smokers too. I like to see the patient move and if facial expression enhances them I use Dysport or Xeomin(Botox would work as well) to stop them from progressing and to relax them. I then use a filler. I will use Restylane, Restylane silk most often. Belotero does well here too.
