Is zinc one of the supplements that needs to be stopped prior to injections?

Question

I know fish oil, vitamin e, ibuprofen and a list of other things are recommended to be stopped up to 2 weeks before fillers. Is zinc one of these things that increase bruising and swelling?

No, zinc is fine and won't lead to more bleeding. In fact, there are some studies suggesting that you might get more longevity of Botox if you take supplemental zinc. Zytaze was the studied form of Zinc - see link.

Its is not required to stop Zinc supplements before injection therapy. Zinc does not play any role in clotting cascade.

To my knowledge, zinc is not a blood thinning supplement and it should not increase your risk of bruising. The others on your list would and so I would stop them.

Hi Krys-- We encourage our patients to refrain from any blood thinners like fish oils and NSAIDS like Ibprofin, Advil and aspirin for about a week to 10 days before treatment. We also recommended no exercise for about 24-48 hours to decrease the chance for bruising.  Blood will always flow first to sight of injury and that will be the sight of injection. Hi,
I agree. Fish oil, Gingko Biloba and many other herbal supplements can contribute to easier bruising with cosmetic injections.
Zinc supplements are not in the same category, so you should not have to stop Zinc supplements before treatment with injectables. However, it is always the best to follow the advice from a doctor who is treating you and let him/her know at least two weeks before the procedure of all the supplements that you are taking.

It has been my personal experience that none of the vitamin supplement the patients take actually enhance bruising when a person is getting injections of any kind. I find that a good physical examination and history of the patient provides a doctor with more information. Patients know when they bruise easily and those issues should be addressed ahead of time.
