I have a slightly small chin and I am interested in a sliding genioplasty paired with a rhinoplasty. However, the front view of my face is quite oblong and I worry about the genioplasty increasing its length. Will this procedure make my face appear longer or will it add facial balance and potentially decrease the oblong appearance? I also worry about my mandibular asymmetry.
Answer: Genioplasty vs. chin augmentation with implant Based on these photos it seems that genipolasty and chin implant augmentation would produce similar effect in your case. Genioplasty will not produce vertical chin lengthening unless it was a part of surgical planning.

Answer: Chin surgery and facial balance. Evaluating the pictures you posted, I can see that you have nice large eyes , a tall nose and central mid-face, beautiful strong and full lips, so even if a sliding genioplasty or a small chin implant adds a little length to your chin, this would be a welcomed change as this will make your face look more balanced and proportionate.

Answer: Genioplasty If you're concerned about the height the chin which can make your face look longer then Genioplasty is your best option. Chin implants cannot really shorten the height of the chin. In a genioplasty we can advance the chin forward AND also make it higher or shorter. Consider a consultation to discuss the options. Best wishes

Answer: Sliding Genioplasty in Long Face A sliding genioplasty is a dimensionally versatile procedure that can keep a chin its same length, shorten it or elongate it. Because of the backward slope to your chin recession it is important in your genioplasty to bring the chin forward and up to absolutely prevent it from becoming longer. Whether your vertical chin length should stay the same or even be shorter than it is now requires computer imaging so look at those various outcomes and see what you prefer.

Answer: Options from sliding genial plasty A sliding Genia plasty can add or subtract vertical height as well as give it forward projection.I don’t know if you necessarily need to decrease the vertical height because all of your facial length is in your maxilla not your mandible. No question that decreasing the vertical height of your mandible will make your overall face have a more balanced height to width proportion but it will also make your mandible looks small compared to your mid face.Perhaps keeping the vertical height the same and just adding forward projection. The reduction rhinoplasty and forward chin augmentation are symbiotic and spectacularly complementary.Once the two of them come together magical things will happen.I suggest consulting with quite a few plastic surgeons before picking the right provider for you.Sometimes oral surgeons Do more sliding genioplasty while plastic surgeons tend to sometimes favor implants.there are plastic surgeons who have oral surgery backgrounds as well. There are also plastic surgeons who done cranial facial fellowships.A reduction rhinoplasty is fairly straightforward but this is considered a moderately complex procedure as it is a sliding genioplastyAre you should look forward to a really nice outcome. It would be nice if you posted your results when you’re done with the process. I would love to see how it turns out.i’m sure whatever surgeon you choose will do a nice job for you. Still, select carefully.Best, Mats Hagstrom MD
