Fucicort for diluting redness and itching?

Question

It's my 23rd day post-fue. I feel slight itching at the donor area. My doc advised me to apply Fucicort to the donor area for 20 minutes before washing it for a period of 1 week. Then, to start applying it on the transplanted area after the elapse of 30 days post operation in order to reduce the redness of the transplanted area. My question is: By the application of Fucicort on the transplanted area after 30 days post-op for 20 minutes before washing it, would that negatively affect the hair re-growth?

Long term use of a steroid is bad.  It may affect hairs and skin in general.  Steroid can alleviate the itching but it may not affect the redness.

That is a very good question which the answer is not clear.I discussed this issue with a colleague recently and we came to the conclusion that we can never be sure that it is not going to have a negative effect.For this reason I advice my patients to use it only at the donor area.However, the recommended period you are mentioning is only one week and it is very unlikely to be long enough to cause any negative effects. If the complaints are significant the medication could be used for a short period to ease the symptoms.

I think you may help the itching, but it will not benefit the redness. It should not damage the grafts or your growth. I would not use it on the grafts. The itching may be due to healing. This should go away on its own. If not, have it checked. Try the steroid on the donor area. However, steroids are not without risk. Why bother at all if the itching is only minor. Only time will help the redness.

Fucicort contains Fusidic Acid which can irritate the skin and Betamethasone which works well to suppress redness. The Fusidic acid may accentuate the effect of the Metamethasone which works well on redness and should not be risky, but you should get that prescription from your doctor, of course.
