In 1990, Dr. Cole embarked on an innovative journey within the realm of hair restoration, pioneering total follicular unit hair transplantation and microscopic dissection. His focus was directed at raising the standards of hair restoration surgery, transforming it from yielding unsatisfactory cosmetic outcomes to achieving results of exceptional aesthetic appeal. By 1998, Dr. Cole had already etched his name as a trailblazer, earning the distinction of being among the first diplomats of the American Board of Hair Restoration Surgery (ABHRS). Subsequently, he played instrumental roles within the ABHRS, contributing significantly to both the examination committee and the board of directors. The year 2000 bore witness to Dr. Cole's leadership in the Newcomer program of the International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery (ISHRS), a role he continued to embrace through 2001. In 1998, Dr. Cole secured his inaugural patent, laying the foundation for pioneering surgical instruments. His subsequent accomplishments include six additional patents granted by the USPTO, alongside ongoing engagement in the development of several patent-pending devices. In 2003, he instigated a revolution in the field by introducing successful techniques for Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) hair restoration, coupled with the creation of indispensable tools integral to the procedure. Amidst a tapestry of remarkable achievements, Dr. Cole established the first FUE clinic in Europe in 2003, followed by a pioneering FUE clinic in Asia in 2007. His innovative drive led to groundbreaking introductions, including the inception of the first complex motion profile device featuring oscillation for FUE in 2005. Dr. Cole's inventive prowess extended to the realm of punch design alterations, resulting in patent applications in 2006, with many of these designs subsequently becoming industry benchmarks. Venturing into the realm of regenerative medicine in 2007, Dr. Cole left an indelible mark. In 2015, he pioneered a method to enhance platelet concentration by lysing platelets, achieving an impressive fivefold increase in high molecular weight proteins compared to standard activated PRP with calcium gluconate or thrombin. Significantly, Dr. Cole facilitated the introduction of topical finasteride to the United States in 2016, building upon the successes of a clinic he was instrumental in establishing in Rome, Italy. As a vocal proponent of adipose-derived mesenchymal stem cells for treating hair loss, he remained steadfast in his pursuit of advancing regenerative medicine. Dr. Cole's resolute advocacy for FUE and his leadership in regenerative medicine for hair loss continue to radiate impact. Presently, he is immersed in the editorial process of a pioneering textbook dedicated to regenerative medicine for hair loss. Additionally, he assumes the role of vice president for the Academy of Regenerative Medicine and Surgery Society (AIRMES). Dr. Cole's intellectual contributions encompass a wealth of scholarly papers and chapters spanning the fields of regenerative medicine and hair restoration surgery.
I first saw Dr. Cole in the 1990's. I consulted with three other doctors first before selecting him. I made the correct choice for a hair transplant. I had been losing hair for a few years and he established a realistic hairline that I have been able to maintain now for over 25 years. The results were excellent and his expertise continues to lead the field. I had my first touch up of the hairline in 10 years with Dr. Cole in 2023 and it was again excellent. I also had CRP done on my scalp and I could feel new hairs coming in within 6 weeks! I did the CRP with low expectations but was actually surprised at how effective it was. I look forward to having it done again this year as I know it works.
I have scars on my head from previous transplants and just needed them gone. I researched many doctors and I found that Dr Cole was far and away the most cutting edge, passionate and qualified, read reviews, look at the results pics, check out his youtube channel talk to Drs, and their staff and see for yourself, I was confident he could get the best results. His staff was super friendly and engaged from first contact, answered all my 1000 questions, provided me with so much info. On surgery day, it was a long day, the nurses were so efficient, nice and compassionate and Dr Cole was awesome! Throughout the questions and conversations all day, clearly he is top of his field and I was very confident I made the right choice by selecting him. They gave me detailed post op instructions and sent me on my way, had a few follow up phone calls where again all my questions were answered. For all the anxiety leading up to it, It couldn't have been a better experience. Too early to tell about final results yet but I can feel on my head that Dr Cole got great coverage on the areas that needed it. l highly recommend Dr Cole and his amazing staff for transplant/scar revision procedures, you would be in good hands.
I had my 1st procedure with Dr. Cole around 14 years ago. I recently returned in 2024 for my second procedure. I had amazing results from the 1st procedure and my hair has held well over the years. I wanted to lower my hairline and thicken up the front area of my scalp with my second procedure. Both procedures went very well. Dr. Cole is a pioneer in the hair restoration industry. I did much research on hair restoration before I decided to have my procedures done with Dr. Cole. Not only did he create the CIT technique, but it's so much less invasive than the "strip surgery" in the back of the head to harvest the hair follicles. Dr. Cole's technique leaves no scarring to the scalp. His entire staff is top notch. Everyone is knowledgeable, kind, and engaging. The entire process was wonderful from start to finish. I highly recommend Dr. Cole and his staff if you are interested in hair restoration options.
Dr. Cole is absolutely amazing! He truly cares for his patients and does whatever he can with his amazing knowledge and experience to give his patients the care they want and deserve. I saw amazing results after working with him. Most def recommend.
I am a woman in my late 50’s, and have struggled with gradual hair loss over the past several years. i have been seeing a dermatologist and his physician’s assistant since 2014. They have prescribed several medications and topicals that are expensive, as well as hair supplements for hair growth and DHT blockers for hair loss. Needless to say, I have never seen much improvement. Three months ago, my dermatologist who has been following and treating my case referred me to Dr. Cole for a consultation. Prior to my visit I had a phone consultation and sent in photos. Dr. Cole assessed my photos and recommended the CRP treatment that is much more potent than the traditional PRP. I was a little skeptical at first but trusted his world renowned reputation and decided to try it. It was a painless procedure that took less than an hour. I am now noticing “new” hair growth everywhere on my scalp just two months later. I am extremely excited that something may finally need working, after trying other options. I am considering a transplant to achieve permanent results. I would also like to say that Dr. Cole’s entire team was caring, compassionate and honest. I would highly recommend them for anyone considering hair restoration.
First, let me convey that I am a SAG actor with over 35 years of experience and am choosing not to identify myself. When your face is in closeup on the big screen, two stories tall, you need the highest level of skill, expertise and perfection for hair restoration. I searched diligently for two years before choosing Dr. John Peter Cole and he fulfilled and far exceeded my expectations of professionalism, attention to detail and innovation. In my early 30s I began hair transplants to fill in a "Jack Nicholson" type recession in my frontal region. I had thick hair on my crown and my top frontal and mid-scalp region but I wanted to maintain a youthful hairline. I started with a respected hair transplantation doctor who was using smaller grafts compared to all the other clinics. He maintained my hairline and performed 5-6 touch ups with good skill. As he expanded, I had some difficulties with one of the doctors in his network. So, suffice to say, I have experience. Typically in those procedures, the doctor would cut a strip graft and prepare the transplant areas then leave. For an hour, perhaps one to two nurses would trim the donor grafts then they would insert the grafts (this is standard procedure in the industry). At the very end, the doctor would come in to adjust any of the grafts and I would leave with some pain meds and instructions. A few years ago a general practitioner doctor in Los Angeles saw my old strip graft scar and asked what it was. When I explained that it was from an old hair transplantation procedure, he was very impressed. He had hair transplant surgery in Turkey near his country of origin. He explained that he had researched doctors worldwide before his procedure and that there were only a few doctors across the US that he would trust to perform surgery. "One" in Beverly Hills had a very slick website but his results didn't match his advertising. He then said "If I were going to have hair restoration surgery in the US, I would go to Dr. Cole in Atlanta (Alpharetta - also New York)." I began my own research and eventually contacted Dr. Cole's office. I spoke to Nikolas and others multiple times who patiently answered all of my questions without high pressure, explaining Dr. Cole's techniques, excellent results and his passion for teaching his techniques to other doctors worldwide at symposiums in Italy, Greece, Asia and across the globe. After emailing digital photos of my hairline from California, I made a deposit for the surgery with full payment 20 days before the procedure. Each process, pre surgery was detailed and professional with different staff calling and emailing all necessary information about the surgery. The day I arrived, Debbie greeted me at the door, pleasant, efficient and polite with a "Kathy Bates" younger sister charm that immediately put me at ease. She took a variety of photos in their studio and opened my case file on their large screen computer. Soon Nikolas arrived to greet me and go over what to expect. I was taken back to the surgical suite where an incredible RN, Lyubov began taking vitals and administering the initial medications. Soon Luda, Savien and Rayvan joined in like a well-oiled machine, shaving my side donor areas (I chose this optional procedure to have my head shaved so the doctor could best see what he was dealing with), taking blood pressure, vitals, heart rate, etc. Soon Dr. Cole arrived and literally took command patiently asking what my expectations were and about my surgical history. They shaved my head and the procedure began. My scalp was thoroughly numbed with absolutely no pain during surgery. They also at stages, provided Nitrous Oxide to help take the edge off slightly. I had scheduled 1150 grafts but Dr. Cole was able to fill in an additional 223, all single, twos and threes in micro or mini grafts even in my old scar tissue in the back of my head. Dr. Cole prepared the donor sites, then excised the grafts with his own proprietary hand held surgical device which removes grafts for transplanting yet preserves some of the follicular roots allowing some of the grafts to regenerate and grow hair again. I opted for the ACELL leading-edge treatment which aids the donor sites in regeneration. Then, they even ordered lunch for me. Throughout the surgery, Dr. Cole supervised his team of experienced nurses and though the nurses did the majority of placement where Dr. Cole had prepped the site, he was either in the room or only steps away from the surgical suite, thoroughly involved in the process. The surgery went far beyond my expectations with the doctor's bedside manner, the nurses' expertise and support staff like Nikolas and David who were there postoperatively to answer any questions. Before leaving I was given a plastic case with shampoo, conditioner and sprays which encourage growth and healing at no extra charge. I also purchased some advanced lotions for the skin which also help stabilize the hair follicles and utilized an optional hyperbaric chamber which helps get more oxygen to the tissues that need healing and fights certain infections. Dr. Cole offers world class, cutting edge procedures with a level of skill, perfection and care that is far beyond any other doctors that I have experienced in the past. The flight to Atlanta was well worth it. I highly recommend John Peter Cole, MD.
Dr. Cole's skill and artistry are AMAZING! . I recently returned for a second surgery with Dr. Cole to further my hair restoration. My first surgery with Dr. Cole was HOME RUN! I look forward to the results of my second surgery. Dr. Cole's skill as a surgeon along with his honesty and genuine concern for the patient is why I returned. Thank you Dr. Cole , Nikolas and staff !!
My experience with Doctor Cole and his staff was a very pleasant one. I had consultations post-op where I spoke with the doctor and we discussed what sort of procedure and hairline design would be most suitable for me. I never felt as though I was being pressured to spend more money. The day of the procedure was incredibly easy and straight forward. Doctor Cole drew the hairline and he and his team began the work. Everyone was personable and I enjoyed the small talk during the procedure. The time really flew by and I never felt a thing! I would absolutely do this all over again if given the chance. It’s a cliché, but I only wish I had done this sooner!
Dr. Cole was very professional and the session went exactly as planned. I was very pleased with the outcome. I came in to add density to my crown area and the results came in much faster than I expected (3-4 months instead of 10-12 months) and the density was greatly improved. I am very happy and I have another 3-4 months of additional growth to look forward to.
After experiencing less than desired results from past procedures from several doctors I started doing additional research. I was determined to address my situation. Luckily, I found Dr. John Cole discussing innovative hair restoration techniques, he developed, on YouTube.com. I was very impressed with what I saw. In those videos, Dr. Cole had a dedicated approach for the patient and has fully dedicated his life to pioneering innovative techniques that combine both art and science to addressing hair restoration. I contacted Dr. Cole’s office and scheduled a procedure in his New York City location. After having several procedures through the years, I can honestly say I never seen the level of meticulous attention to a procedure shown by Dr. Cole and his staff. In addition, Dr. Cole was present during the entire procedure ensuring, from extraction to placement, the hair restoration process was addressed correctly. No other doctor from my past procedures was present during the entire procedure and shown the dedication to the patient like Dr. Cole. My experience in meeting Dr. Cole and his dedicated team was excellent. When I think of three words to describe Dr. Cole it’s; Dedicated, Innovative and Results driven.
Baldness due to a genetic predisposition is not transmittable. Minoxidil requires an enzyme called sulfotransferase to put a sulfate group on minoxidil. Sulfated minoxidil is the active form of the drug. You either have this enzyme or you do not have this enzyme based on your genetics. You cannot lose this enzyme by sharing a headpiece or hat with someone else, who is balding. if you are on minoxidil and your hair loss has increased, you may need to consider adding another medication and evaluating your response to minoxidil. Only roughly 40% of the people respond to minoxidil. You can evaluate your response to medications by doing a genetic test called the trichotest. We are happy to provide you with this test if you are inclined. Furthermore, androgenic baldness is not a transmitted disease. Some diseases like syphilis can cause hair loss, but this is a sexually transmitted disease.
You should check with your surgeon who performed the Rhinoplasty regarding being face down. Your nose will be though a hole so you should not put pressure on the nose. Personally, I harvest with the patient seated because this is the only way to see the angle of hair growth perfectly. In other words, the head is never face down in my procedure. BTW, I am the one who developed the FUE technique. Face down harvesting is not a good way to perform the surgery.
First, if you see the term Neograft, this means an assistant will do the surgery and the physician most likely cannot do the surgery. The physician does not know how to do the surgery. My understanding is that in california an RN can do the extractions if they physician has trained the nurse to do this procedure. If the assistant is not an RN, they are not allowed to do the surgery. You can contact the state medical board for help. Remember, Neograft is synonymous with assistant does all the surgery.
Any hair below your neck may only have a 1 out of 4 chance of surviving. Your best option is scalp hair. The average donor area has around 15k follicular units. In the worst-case scenario, your eyebrows would require 300 grafts on each side.
You do not show your frontal hairline, so it is impossible to make a rough guess about how many grafts may have been used for the front compared to the crown. You could see a few stragglers pop in. Given your hair loss characteristics, you probably had a minimal loss in the crown. It is impossible if they claimed to have put 3,900 grafts in your crown. There wouldn't be room for 3,900 grafts without putting hair on top of hair. This competing blood supply would also ruin the graft yield. I hope they lied to you about how many grafts they took out. Your scalp donor area may be close to depletion if they are honest. Provide more details for a better analysis.
