Will 50 units of Botox be equivalent to 150 units of Dysport?

I did a study in my own practice and found the factor was about 2.7 units of Dysport to 1 unit of Botox.  However, we now use 3 as a conversion factor and have had no issues with this.  Clinically I see absolutely no differences in the onset, longevity, or effects among the FDA approved cosmetic botulinum toxin products.  They are all safe and effective in the hands of properly trained and licensed practitioners.

Hello Youngj.The Dysport dose is about 2.5 to 3 times the Botox dose in terms of numbers. Dysport is very effective and last a little longer in some people.Best wishes, Dr. ALDO :)

Three 3 units of dysport is proportional to 1 unit of botox. Please contact a qualified provider or a board-certified physician with extensive experience in these procedures.

Thank you for the question.   There may be some confusion here.  Your injector may have given you 30 unit "equivalents" of Dysport, or technically 90 units, and called it "30 units" using the 3 Dysport = 1 Botox unit conversion.  Sometimes it is easier for injectors to do this.  Please clarify this with your injector.  If they did in fact use 30 units of Dysport, then you are right, it is not nearly enough.  Good luck! 

Thank you for your question. As a general rule, we inject three times the units of Dysport as Botox. This would translate to 150 units per side. In your situation, the question becomes whether the lower dose of Dysport relative to Botox was effective. If it was effective then you received an appropriate dose. I generally start most patients with 60-90 units of Dysport but would have gone higher with your history of requiring 50 units of Botox per side. I hope this was helpful - Dr. Moore.

Generally the ratio is 3 units of Dysport for 1 unit of Botox.  If you were happy with the results from your prior treatment, then you were not undertreated as the goal is for you to be happy with the result.

1 unit of Botox equals 2.5-3.0 units of Dysport. I typically use a 1:3 conversion for Botox to Dysport in my practice. If you need 50 units of Botox into each masseter, then you would need 150 Dysport units into each masseter. Hope this helps.

I have found that the choice of Dysport vs Botox is typically personal preference. Both work well and we use approximately 2.5-3 times the units of Dysport to the equivalent number of Botox units. We use the 3:1 guidance when discussing dosage with patients. So on a equivalent basis you received approximately 10 units of Botox on each side. Some injectors may use a 2.5 :1 ratio which would be slightly stronger a dosage. As a patient you should be aware of the number of units administered so when you return, you can tell the injector (if different) how many units you used in the past to acheive you optimal goal.
