How long after surgery is it okay to take Ibuprofen/Advil after surgery?

I just had revision art breast surgery today, and my dr gave me a couple days worth of norco. My body is extremely insensitive when it come to all medicine, so he told me to double up on the pills, but now they will be gone twice as fast. Anyway the question is, how long after surgery is it okay to take ibuprofen? Tylenol/aspirin has never helped me even a little

I very strongly urge my patients to start ibuprofen 600 mg or 800 mg every six hours around the clock for the first few days. If they need more pain relief, I have them supplement this with oxycodone.

Thank you for your question!  I typically allow supplementation with ibuprofen a few days postoperatively, due to the slightly increased risk of bleeding. Be cognizant that the pain medication that you have now includes Tylenol, so you should be careful with any additional Tylenol. Certainly, discuss other medication with your surgeon as allowed or obtain additional prescription as needed. Best wishes!

I personally allow my patients to take Advil or Alleve immediately after surgery. You should check with your surgeon and follow their recommendation.

Hello letsdothis123456,Thank you for your question, and I hope you are starting to feel better.  In general, I allow my patients to starting taking ibuprofen the day after surgery if they want to supplement them for their narcotic.  I have not seen any systemic issues with this technique.  Hang in there!

When to start Ibuprofen (Motrin or Advil) after surgery varies from surgeon to surgeon.  I typically allow my patients to start using these medications immediately, but many surgeons prefer for patients to wait several days.  It is always best to ask your surgeon as he/she may have encountered something during the operation in which bleeding is more of a concern.  Good luck!
