Chin augmentation or more? (Photo)

Question

Hi! I have a weak chin with a lessthan ideal neck structure. What do you think is best for me? I am in my late 20s, low BMI so not sure how much fat could truly be removed, and want to balance the invasiveness vs reward of what I could actually achieve in this surgery. Do you think a single incision neck lift would yield enough of a result to be worth it rather than just a chin augmentation with possible fat reduction if there is any to remove? Thanks!

Your chin is a bit small and you also have fat in your chin. Yes, you are right, your BMI is low. But sometimes it can be regional. We can achieve a great result with a very small touch. And you can have the strong jawline you want.

A formal evaluation would be needed to determine the best treatment. There are surgical and non-surgical options to correct this.

We can place a chin implant, which is a quick surgical procedure. Many of my patients try to avoid surgery, however, so for those patients, we also offer non-surgical chin augmentation with injectable fillers. Fillers like Radiesse, Voluma, BellaFill, and Sculptra are injected into the area to improve the overall appearance of the lower face and balance the jaw and lip harmony. We use cannula injections to meticulously contour and project the chin, soften the chin along the jawline, and improve the chin crease.

Implants are a great option once you are 100% positive that you are ready for permanent chin enhancement.​ I suggest getting a consultation with an experienced cosmetic dermatologist and facial sculpting expert, or aesthetic facial plastic surgeon; we have both at our practice, which is located right here in Los Angeles.

It is possible that a chin implant alone will give you the result that you are looking for. In some cases, I recommend submental and jawline liposuction and in other cases I will recommend a chin implant and platysmaplasty. You do not need a traditional lower face and necklift.

You would benefit from a chin implant.  This done intra-orally under general anesthesia, takes about 1 hour to perform and costs $4,000.

Hello, hope you are well. There is no question that you would benefit from chin augmentation with an implant. My preference is to place implants transorally so that there is no scar underneath the chin (i.e. having a scar is not a foregone conclusion). Instead of a deep neck lift, you might be better off with NeckTite--I think this would be a better balance of invasiveness and reward, as you put it. These are low-risk procedures that can be done under local anesthesia in the office and have a relatively quick recovery period.

Based on your underlying neck anatomy,  chin augmentation with implant should be combined with anterior neck lift to rearrange anterior neck muscles and create sharper jaw/neck angle. Good luck.

Do you have a significant recessive chin, therefore a chin implant would be beneficial for you to augment your chin forward for better facial balance, and proportions. Regarding your neck, you have fat deposits located both above and below the plasma muscle in your neck, therefore a neck lift procedure would accomplish removal of the fat deposits above the plasma muscle with liposuction, and surgical extraction of the fat deposits below the muscle, which also includes a plasma-plasty to significantly improve the jawline.

Facial aesthetics are primarily determined by facial bone structure.
It is facial skeletal structure that gives each person their unique facial appearance.
Issues related to the lower, 1/3 of the face are therefore related to the shape and size of the mandible.
Attempt at treating skeletal issues with soft tissue manipulation typically yields to less than ideal outcomes.
To get a quality assessment and better understanding of treatment options, I suggest having a few in person consultations with oral surgeons in your community.
I think you’ll find plastic surgeons, generally lean towards the soft tissue approach, which may or may not be in your favor.
The more a surgical approach is aimed at Treating the primary problem the more likely is to achieve success. 
The chin or mentalis region is only one part of the mandible.
It’s important to recognize if the deficit is in the mentalist region or further back in the body of the mandible.
Again, I recommend you have a few in person consultations with experienced oral surgeons in your community.
I think you’ll find that they have the most skill and experience for both making quality assessments and solutions.
Jaw advancement may not be for everyone, but it’s important to understand all your options before making decisions about permanent irreversible surgical procedures.
