I’m wondering if my profile would benefit most from a chin implant, genioplasty, or another/combination of procedures to project my chin and define my jawline? Note my neck posture. First picture is with slightly slouched posture. Second is with my shoulders pushed together. Last is pushing my neck back with shoulders together. Also I previously had an anterior open bite. Jaw surgery was discussed as an option but was corrected with upper palate expansion and Invisalign with rubber bands.
Answer: Chin implant vs Fillers A formal evaluation would be needed to determine the best treatment. There are surgical and non-surgical options to correct this. We can place a chin implant, which is a quick surgical procedure. Many of my patients try to avoid surgery, however, so for those patients, we also offer non-surgical chin augmentation with injectable fillers. Fillers like Radiesse, Voluma, BellaFill, and Sculptra are injected into the area to improve the overall appearance of the lower face and balance the jaw and lip harmony. We use cannula injections to meticulously contour and project the chin, soften the chin along the jawline, and improve the chin crease. Implants are a great option once you are 100% positive that you are ready for permanent chin enhancement. I suggest getting a consultation with an experienced cosmetic dermatologist and facial sculpting expert, or aesthetic facial plastic surgeon; we have both at our practice, which is located right here in Los Angeles. Best, Dr. Emer

Answer: Gin implant is not the best solution Thank you for your pictures. Especially the different postures. As I was reading your post, I saw that you mentioned that you were a candidate for jaw surgery, but the option chosen was non-surgical approach. The standard answer is that you will receive the most benefit from jaw surgery. If that is not something that's appealing to you then I believe a sliding genioplasty offer you the best options to improve your profile. Sliding genioplasty is versatile and it can address many issues from projection, to height, to width and beyond, chin implant cannot. In my opinion, it's best to see several for certified oral & maxillofacial surgeons or plastic surgeons to get the best treatment options from an in person evaluation. Best wishes! Answer: Recessive chin It is difficult to give you definitive advice based on the three photos alone. It appears that you have a shallow mentolabial fold and therefore that may be an indication that your chin is somewhat recessive. The treatment options are as you stated, chin implant, sliding genioplasty or fillers. Each has its advantages and disadvantages. A FaceTime consultation or in-office visit is necessary give you final advice.

Answer: Chin augmentation There is no doubt that chin augmentation will improve your profile. It would be in your best interest to discuss this issue with a board certified plastic or maxillofacial surgeon in-person. Good luck.
