I've been wearing a pair of glasses that are similar to this style for about 7 months now and I have noticed that there is a prominent bump on the bridge of my nose that I have not really noticed before. I was wondering if this is due to the glasses. Sometimes they feel heavy on my nose when I wear them for a long periods of time. Would I be a good candidate for surgery to correct this?
Answer: Wearing glasses is likely not the cause of the bump on your nose. While it's not impossible, it is highly unlikely that wearing glasses has caused the bump on your nose. The other experts have offered some suggestions that are even more likely (recent trauma, age-related changes, etc.). There are also some very rare (and unlikely) systemic inflammatory diseases that can change the shape of the nose over time. The most appropriate step at this point would be to have an examination by a specialist. I'd recommend you find someone board-certified in Otolaryngology (ENT), Plastic Surgery or Facial Plastic Surgery. A consultation and thorough physical exam would be able to distinguish the cause of the bump. Good luck!Dr. Harmych

Answer: Dorsal hump It would be unusual for glasses to cause a dorsal hump. Nonetheless, this is easily corrected with a rhinoplasty procedure. No other nonsurgical options would properly address this.

Answer: Bump on the Nose Thank you for your question. It may be worthwhile going without glasses for a while to see if the shape is due to pressure from the glasses. This kind of "Bump" is quite common even without wearing glasses. Surgery can correct this problem . Please make an appointment with an experienced Board Certified Plastic Surgeon to discuss you options. All The Best.

Answer: Bump on nose Dear ladyinpink24In my experience, although possible, It is unlikely that the bump is from just wearing glasses. One easy way to assess this is to look at your pictures from a year ago and see if you had bump before you started wearing the glasses but never noticed it. If bump is old and unchanged, then treatment would be a dorsal reduction as in any rhinoplasty. If bump is new, you need an examination. If its a new mass ... you might need a medical workup such as CT scan and or MRI to assess. The level of the mass appears to be just below the bony cartilaginous junction. I recommend consultation with a physician.

Answer: Rhinoplasty for dorsal hump removal A dorsal hump located on the nose is composed of both bone and cartilage. It must be shaved down surgically in order to remove it. In most cases, osteotomies of the nasal bones are also required to prevent an open roof deformity. For many examples, please see the link below
