How to get rid of genetic double chin?

Question

Hello I am 20 years old and I have a genetic double chin that I’ve had my whole life. My side profile is very weak. I am at a healthy weight, so I know it is not fat. What will be the least invasive and least down time treatment that I may have? Kybella or any sort of laser treatment? Also is there any at home creams/gels and led lights or anything I can do to tighten the skin? I don’t believe in those double chin workouts, I felt it just stretched my skin..

If a double chin is present in youth several factors need to be evaluated:  How much is the contour because of fat or the underlying attachment of of muscles between the hyoid bone and the chin, and how prominent or under projecting is the chin.Assuming the chin appearance is just fat, liposuction is the optimal treatment.  Kybella can be used, but requires multiple treatments and has a lot of swelling associated, and can be quite expensive as well.

Neck liposuction is a great option for patients with good skin elasticity and excess fat in the neck and around the jawline. This will remove excess fat and stimulate the skin to contract over time which will improve angulation and definition along the jawline. I recommend seeing an expert for a consultation. I hope this helps!

An examination or photographs of you would be helpful to give you the best advice.  Some people with a double chin may only need fat reduction but others could benefit from a chin implant as well.  Fat reduction can be done with liposuction, Kybella or CoolSculpting.  Liposuction can remove the most fat in one treatment and involves only one recovery period.  Kybella and CoolSculpting usually require multiple treatment sessions to achieve the desired result and there is normally significant swelling after each Kybella treatment.

I find that VASER liposuction in combination with ThermiRF are best for contouring the chin in those who are candidates but Kybella can be used as an alternative and gets better results when combined with thermage/ultherapy/exilis or coolsculpting. Thanks for your question, but AlyciaR, you will need to provide images, or preferably see a BCPS for a consultation, to get specific recommendations.  Although you are at a healthy weight, you still may be genetically predisposed to have some fat in the neck.  Depending on the volume and distribution, you may be a candidate for lipo, kybella, or coolsculpting.  At 20 it is likely that your skin will do well, but that needs to be assessed, as well.  The appearance of a double chin is also influenced by the projection of the chin and definition of the jawline.  You may benefit from jawline sculpting, a chin implant, or even simple fillers used for augmentation and shaping.  See an expert!  Best of luck...

A full set of pictures are going to be required to make a determination about how to proceed. The fatty deposits in the neck are variable and can be located above and below the platysma muscle. like.  Liposuction can remove the fatty deposits above the muscle, while surgery is required to remove the deposits below the platysma muscle. A platysma- plasty is also required when the sub- platysma fat has been removed.
