Restylane Refyne nasolabial folds did not work at all.

Question

4 days ago the ps injected restylane refyne in my nasolabial folds bc he said it would be thinner and that i dont have much of an issue and i needed a more shallow injection. it has bn four daysand it looks like nothing has been done (actually the nl look slightly worse). I feel like restylane refyne was like a saline injection in that area and my problem was not that big to begin with! shall i do juvederm in two months? it always worked there and i got hood results with juvedem.

You may want to go back to what works.  If you don't appreciate much results at 4 days, it's highly unlikely that you will notice a big difference two weeks after your treatment day.  I'm a fan of thicker fillers in the nasolabial fold.  Best of luck!

If you are not seeing an improvement in your nasolabial folds after an injection of Refyne, there is a good chance that it is not the right filler to make the corrections you desire, or that it was not injected correctly. It may be that you need a more robust filler like Restylane Defyne, or your injector did not use enough filler or did not inject in the precise location that would produce the best results. I suggest that you schedule a consultation with a very experienced, qualified injector with expertise in treating nasolabial folds. Restalyne Refyne injections into nasolabial folds would not be my first choice of filler, unless your lines are barely there and your skin is very thin.  In our practice, we like Juviderm Ultra Plus, Juviderm Vollure ,RestalyneL, Restalyne Defyne, Restalyne Lyft because they are a little more robust, therefore great to soften those deeper lines.  I would wait 2 weeks and return to your injector to see what they can do to have a happy, satisfied patient.

Restylane Refyne is a newer type filler which is thinner and "buoyant" than the traditional stiffer filler.  If you inject filler into a nasolabial fold, typically you will want a thicker product to accomplish this such as Restylane Lift, Juvederm Ultra Plus, Radiesse, or Voluma.  Pick a product that is stiffer and seek an injector who recognizes facial anatomy and choses both the best filler and approach for your face.

A combination approach is needed for nasolabial folds to get the most improvement. I recommend fillers (radiesse, voluma) for the folds themselves but also lifting around the mouth and cheeks to build underlying anatomical support. In our practice we combine sculptra with other fillers "layered" on top and lasers, rf treatments and peels to get the most conservative natural look. Please see a facial sculpting expert. In my opinion, it is another runny filler, despite all the fancy talk about how it is cross linked.  Why do these companies like runny fillers?  Because they know that most injectors are just not that good and they tend to make bumps with fillers like Restylane and Restylane Lyft.  I very much like Restylane and Restylane Lyft because they stay where you put them.  I do not like Juvederm because this is also a runny filler. It tends to end up drifting into the lower cheek.  Try Restylane or Restylane Lyft for these areas.

If you didn't get great results with Refyne, it is most likely because it was injected too deeply. Refyne works best in the dermis. I like to do serial puncture technique in the mid dermis. It integrates with the tissues very well and nodules are very rare. It has a very poor G prime (lifting capacity) so deeper injections don't work well with this filler sometimes.

Restylane Refyne is a great choice for patients who don't really have hollowness in the NLFs or who have already treated the folds with a thicker filler and are now trying to help with the very fine lines in that area. If your folds were deeper to begin with, I do recommend a thicker filler such as Juvederm Ultra Plus, Restylane Lyft. I would advise to wait 2 weeks before injecting with more filler in that same area just to allow healing.

Thank you for your question and I am sorry to hear you are disappointed in your results. Restylane Refyne is a relatively new product on the market that has increased elasticity compared to most fillers. However, it is a relatively thin product and if you are not seeing results at this point in time, you are unlikely to see further improvement. I recommend contacting your injector and letting them know of your disappointment. There are a number of good alternative options including Restylane Lyft, Restylane Defyne, Juvederm, and Sculptra.
