What is appropriate dosing of Sculptra (temple treatment only)?

Question

I've had a few consultations, and am very confused on whether it's best to have one vial split between each side (4cc each side) or one full 8cc on each temple as I have been quoted on first appointment. I know there is a few follow up appts 4-6 weeks but what's the most common dosing.

Sculptra dosing (like any treatment) should be tailored to the specific patient. Some patients may need more correction than others in a given area. In my practice, most patients need only 1 vial of Sculptra per treatment session split between both temple areas. This would then be repeated at least once, and usually twice more over the course of the next 8-12 weeks. If any volume is needed in the cheek areas (which most patients would benefit from as well), then 2 vials per treatment session might be needed to address both cheeks and both temples at the same time. 
Of course, each patient is unique, so discussing your areas of concern with a skilled physician injector is always recommended.

This is a great question that is best answered by being able to perform a thorough evaluation of you in person or with photos by a physician experienced with Sculptra treatments. That being said, I've had great results with using Sculptra to add volume to hollow temples. Patients like the gradual filling effect from their own collagen production. Best of luck to you!

Hello,All good feedback from panel members.  Without seeing you in person, it's difficult to speak to your treatment plan.  However, generally speaking, most patients benefit from 1 vial divided between both temples.  To answer your question as to what is the appropriate dosing for temples - the amount that will offer the best improvement with the least financial investment.  In addition, Sculptra treatments are done over a series of 3 visits on average.  Therefore, caution is used in not over-filling on the first treatment.

Hello - my general rule of thumb after injecting several hundred Sculptra patients is that I favor more sessions with less volume injected at each session.  In other words, it is more accurate and optimal results are achieved with 1 vial injected through 3-4 sessions than 2 vials injected through 2 sessions.Best of luck!

Hello jtfivestar! Sculptra often takes multiple sessions to achieve correction and these sessions should be spaced at least 4-6 weeks apart as Sculptra takes time to build (collagen). An expert will be able to determine how many vials you will need and sometimes it's best to do one or two vials a year for preventative measures once correction is achieved. There is no correct sculptra dose but you need to know that one vial never does the trick. I would start with one vial split between the two sides and then in a month put in a second vial.  At that point I would wait a couple of  months to see what your response was and go from there.

I often start with 1 vial (split between both temples) and then wait 6 weeks to add another.  Then if more is needed we space the treatments to every 8-12 weeks.  you can add radiesse or voluma to get more immediate results.  Best, Dr. Emer.

Thank you for your question. With any treatment, surgery, or filler it depends on the patient and their individual needs. In general if someone is very deficient in the temples then they usually have volume loss elsewhere in the face and the need more than just their temples treated. The amount needed for the temple can depend on multiple factors such as age, skin quality , bone loss, and gender to name a few. It is best  to be evaluated by a doctor who has experience with the process so that they explain the specifics of Sculptra to you and what to expect.

I cannot provide an accurate estimate without a photo, however I can tell you that with Sculptra, you have to inject some then wait and see - repeating this process until you have reached your desired result. As mentioned below, 1 vial is never sufficient, however depending on your facial structure, may not be a bad place to start. Sculptra works gradually to build collagen over a series of treatments, which is why it takes time and often more than one. Not until 4-6 weeks later will you see the improvement and be able to gauge how much additional may be needed.

Sculptra in the temples is a fabulous way to inject the area and typically if there is a lot of volume loss you could have 2 to 4cc injected on each side.  Sculptra is particularly good for this area as there are many vessels and this area is prone to bruising which does not happen with Sculptra.  It will take typically three different injections a month apart to achieve the volume replacement in this area.  Please consult an experienced Sculptra injector to have the best cosmetic results.  Best, Dr. Green
