Is sudden rippling one week post-op a concern? (Photos)

At
one week post op you are very early in the healing process. Rippling is completely normal with implants. Swelling will continue
to subside and the implants will continue to settle while changing your breast shape. I
recommend follow up with your chosen surgeon regarding your post operative
concerns.

I see the rippling on one breast.  The muscle usually hides ripples in this location.  I don't know if the implant thinned the muscle or if the muscle was thin to allow this to show.  You are also a thin person without much body fat to hide rippling.  Unfortunately, I usually see ripples worsen as swelling goes away.  Discuss options with your surgeon.

Thank you for your pictures and questions. Rippling of the implant is determined by the covering of the implant. All implants ripple to some degree but the rippling is disguised better by implant coverage. In someone like you who is very thin with a larger implant, rippling is going to be a concern. It is unlikely that with continued time, implant settling, and a decrease in swelling, that the rippling will improve.....in fact, if there is rippling now, it will probably become more noticeable over time. Make sure you discuss your concerns with your surgeon at the visit. One option for patients like you is to choose a highly cohesive implant (such as the Allergan level 3 cohesive implant) which tends to ripple less than traditional implants but is slightly more firm.Hope this helps!

Thank you for sharing your question and photographs. Initially with the swelling that accompanies surgery, and the stretching of your skin, you can see these bands develop.  As your results mature further you should see this improve but only time will tell.  Hope this helps.

It is far too early to evaluate what will happen. Please be patient, follow your postoperative instructions and re-evaluate more at 9-12 months. It takes time for everything to mature and stabilize. Best. 

Dear summergirl23,I understand your concern and it is quite normal to be concerned about the outcome following a breast augmentation surgery. However, you are still in the very early stages of the healing process at 7 days  post op.Your will need to be patient at this moment and follow what your surgeon has instructed you to do post operatively.At the early stage of the healing process, the tissues around the implants are still swollen. Once the swelling subsides and the implants drop to their final position, you will be able to see the final result of your breast augmentation surgery.Daniel Barrett, MD

it is always the case that implants can be seen or felt by some people in certain situations. Sadly there's no such thing as a completely natural result. I find that the larger the implant and the smaller the woman, the more likely we are to be able to see or feel ripples in the implants. So, if you have a breast of a certain size and hardly any of that is made up of breast tissue, then almost all of it will be implant. In these cases, any minor surface irregularities in the implant will come to the surface and you'll feel rippling. On the other hand, if you have a breast and almost none of it is made up of implants and there's a lot of cushioning between the outside skin and the implant itself, then there's almost no risk of being able to feel or see an implant.So, I think it's a balance between having a larger size and having the effects of a large proportion of the breast being made up of implant. I hope this makes sense, but please ask any more questions if I haven't explained it properly

You are early in recovery and your implant should drop significantly over time. It is possible that as the implants drop the ripples that you see now may not be visible. You have chosen very large implants and the risk of rippling is greater with a large implants. Of course discuss this with your surgeon.

You are a small person with huge implants.   Rippling is a possible complication when implants are that large. You may want to consider replacement with smaller implants for a pretty look.

I wish I could give you the same advice the other surgeons have given that all will be well with time, but I don't believe that. Right now you have swelling which helps hide the implants. When that goes away the rippling will possible be worse. When looking at your photos the implants are so close together there is no muscle left covering them near the breast bone (where you see the rippling) and in a thin patient there is always a high chance of significant rippling in the upper breast without adequate muscle coverage. When the tissues are so thin in the center of the breast, any revision is much more difficult. Luckily this has happened early and most surgeons will make corrections at no cost to the patient. This should include going down significantly in size, otherwise your chest is so small it will not be possible to get this corrected. All that said, I would still give it a full 3 monthjs before making any corrections, just in case it might get better. I hope it does, but I just don;t think that will be the case.
