Is it safe to undergo MiraDry treatment while breastfeeding? I also have breast implants. Will that cause problems?

 Thank you for your question. I would not recommend that you have miraDry while breast-feeding. If you really are bothered by the symptoms, and would really like to proceed with the procedure, you may want to pump and dump for a few days while you are taking pain medication. With respect to the breast implant, you would need to avoid treating directly over that area. I would go to a plastic surgeon's office that has miraDry as they would be more comfortable in assessing how close to the breast you can get with the treatment.

Hello and thanks. MiraDry has not been studied in pregnant people and those breast feeding and what effects the medications/procedure could have on your baby. I would also agree with a previous answer that you should "pump and dump" if you decide to do it to not expose the child to any medications. Check with your treating physician for more details.

As with anything cosmetic or elective, it is our policy to not treat during pregnancy or while breast feeding. There isn't any studies proving (or disproving for that matter) the safety of your unborn child therefore it is always better to err on the side of caution. miraDry microwaves penetrate less than 5 mm deep, between the
skin and underlying fat. miraDry is a
third generation microwave-based device that selectively heats this area where
the sweat glands and odor glands reside.
The vacuum system within the handpiece lifts the skin and
underlying tissue a few millimeters into the treatment chamber. During the
treatment cycle (consisting of energy delivery time and post-cool time) cooling
fluid flows through a chamber in contact with the skin, protecting the
epidermis and upper dermis from excess heating. Structures deeper than the
sweat glands are protected from heat injury due to the limited penetration
depth of microwave energy. Breast tissue is not affected and there are no
reports of untoward problems



If you are pregnant or breast feeding, it is best to wait
until you are done as we inject a local anaesthetic and you will be taking oral
pain medication after the treatment.

Breast implants are definitely not a problem but you do want your practitioner to be aware of them so as to have you pull them away while being numbed.  I  would wait until after you are done breastfeeding... not that I think anything will happen if you do it while breast feeding.  Just overly cautious, I guess.

I would NOT recommend miraDry if you are currently breastfeeding or pregnant. The risks are unknown. You may get swelling in the breast or chest area after a miraDry treatment that could affect breastfeeding.
