Is this a blocked blood vessel after Juvederm injection 8 days ago?

Question

Hello, I had juvederm 8 days ago and have red patches and new bruises that popped up below my smile line and lower lip. Initially, I was very swollen and and the red patches seemed to be a bit darker. Most of the bruise is fading. I called the nurse practicioner and she seemed to think this was just a skin reaction and I needed more time to heal. I just want to know if this normal, or if I need to go see a doctor ASAP. Thanks so very much.

From your photos it is apparent you are experiencing an adverse reaction from the injection. Make a appointment with a physician immediately to be assessed. All the best.

A reaction like this is not normal 8 days after Juvederm injection. I am most concerned about the purplish appearing area which may indicate vascular occlusion. You need to see a doctor right away, not a nurse.

Your picture suggests a possible vascular occlusion which can occur when any filler is injected into a blood vessel, or sometimes when filler compresses a blood vessel. This should be reviewed by your physician, ideally a specialist like a dermatologist, immediately. There are a number of options to ensure this goes away quickly with no consequence. The nurse practitioner does not know skin like a specialist, so see a dermatologist for expert guidance.
