Previous laparoscopy scars generally do not interfere at all with a tummy tuck. Larger scars can be more challenging, but with proper planning can be accommodated. Good luck!
Tummy tuck after fundoplication should be ok, provided there are no issues. An exam and consultation with a plastic surgeon is recommended.
Hi. In general, you should be able to have an abdominoplasty (tummy tuck) after a Nissen if you are otherwise a good candidate for that procedure. A tummy tuck can be a powerful body contouring procedure to make a significant improvement to that area. I would recommend consulting with a board certified plastic surgeon to go over the whole process thoroughly with you.Good luck and take care,Dr. Howell
Thank you for your question. The main concern when doing an abdominoplasty is blood supply to the skin. The blood supply can be interrupted by large horizontal incisions, such as that caused by an open gallbladder removal. The small incisions left by laparoscopic surgery do not cause a problem: this wound include scars from laparoscopic cholecystectomy (gallbladder), laparoscopic appendectomy, and laparoscopic Nissen fundoplication. If this is something you are interested in pursuing, I would recommend scheduling a consultation with a Board-Certified Plastic Surgeon in your area. Best of luck to you!
Prior abdominal surgeries can always potentially complicate a tummy tuck procedure. Because your surgery was done laparoscopically, you should be able to undergo a tummy tuck without any significant increased risk of wound healing complications. Your plastic surgeon needs to carefully examine you for hernias, especially in the belly button area.
Thank you for your excellent question. With the rise in Nissen procedures, many patients are concerned about their ability to still have a body contouring procedure of their abdomen, such as liposuction or a tummy tuck. As most of the work of a Nissen is deep to the stomach muscles, it does not preclude a tummy tuck. Hope this helps.
Thanks for your question. Generally a history of previous laparoscopic surgery such as Nissen Fundoplication is not a contraindication to having tummy tuck surgery. Your surgeon would do a proper assessment to ensure there is no hernia or other issue with the abdominal wall before making definite recommendations.
Yes. Tummy tuck can be safely performed for patients with most abdominal type surgery.Best Wishes,Nana Mizuguchi
Thanks for your question. My assumption is that you're curious to know if a tummy tuck changes the effect of the Nissen. There seems to be some misunderstanding that tightening the muscles causes a significant increase in pressure inside the abdomen. There is no reason to believe that abdominoplasty would lead to harm in that regard. Further, the benefit of that muscle tightening is so valuable that with rare exceptions, it should certainly be done.If you're considering tummy tuck, keep doing what you're doing to learn what you can but nothing will be more valuable than a personal consult with a good surgeon. Best,Dr. Pyle
Hi Svetlana. If the laparoscopic surgery was performed with the typical small port incisions, then you would be able to have a tummy tuck. If you have lost a lot of weight, you may want to consider a circumferential tuck in order to lift your outer thighs and buttocks. Be sure to visit a board-certified PS that has a lot of experience with patients that have had bariatric surgery. I hope this helps!

I practice in Miami and see patients who have had surgery in D.R. You need to know that the U.S. Dept. of State makes a special point of warning US citizens to be "aware of the risk associated with cosmetic surgery in the Dominican Republic" including at least 19 deaths of US citizens after...
I can see how distressing this must be for you. So sorry you are dealing with this so soon after surgery. Hopefully, we can put your mind at ease. The fascia - which is the tissue that contains the muscle - is not cut or "repaired" in a tummy tuck. The fascia...
