Brazilian Butt Lift on a 16 year old

Hi. Age in and of it's self is not a contraindication for a BBL. You are her mom and if she desires it and you both agree then, why not. A Brazilian Butt Lift is simply a term coined to describe the action of liposculpture and harvesting of that fat with a transfer to the buttock region. The goal is a smaller waist, abdomen and shapelier buttock.I would encourage you to research , research and research some more. Real Self is a great web site for education. Avail yourself of it's contents. When selecting your surgeon never let costs or geography prevent you from seeking the correct surgeon for you. Miami has become the land of BBLs........some very good and some that look awful. I encourage you do research, research and then research some more. Our city is filled with mom and pop shops for cosmetic surgery. Buyer beware. You need to know that liposuction or for that matter re injecting fat is not the most technically challenging procedure for a surgeon certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery. Search for a surgeon certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery with years of experience in liposuction and fat transfers. Look at unbiased reviews. Look at many before and after photos of the surgeon who will be doing your procedure. How about the center, clinic or facility? Are they accredited by a national organization or do they just have State approval. Understand that at the current time, there are three nationally recognized organizations responsible for the highest levels of patient safety, AAAASF, AAACH and JCHO. You owe it to yourself to position yourself for the best possible results but under the most stringent safety regulations.How about anesthesia? Will you have a medical doctor certified by the American Board of Anesthesiology or a certified nurse anesthetist (CRNA)? Understand that there is no substitute for research. Cosmetic surgery, no matter how simple it may be to the patients, are invasive procedures and as such carry certain risks and complications.In our office we use TouchMD which is a web based program in which patients have the ability to load their picture unto the program. Many facilities can accommodate patients from as far away as California. I then evaluate them and can actually draw on the picture to show a potential patient where the incisions would be located and how the procedure is to be realized. It's all done to comply with HIPPA which is the federal law that protects the patient's medical information. Look them up.Give yourself the highest percentage of a sucssesful operation. Hi, Thank you for the question, speaking for my self, Only functional surgeries like Rhinoplasty or some reconstruction are done before 18 year old...   

   In plastic surgery, certain operations are performed for females as young as 14 on a routine basis (rhinoplasty for example).    For other operations like BBL, surgeons like to wait until 18.  I must admit that I am unsure of the rationale.  Kenneth Hughes, MDLos Angeles, CA

I cannot speak for all plastic surgeons, but I think performing a cosmetic surgery such as this in a 16 year old, even with parental consent, would be an unethical endeavor. Unless she has some deforming medical condition with her buttocks that requires surgical treatment to make her "normal," elective gluteal augmentation in a patient that is not of age to understand the risks and implications of such a procedure would not be a wise choice. I would advise that you seek a consultation with your local plastic surgeon and have your daughter explain to him or her what her concerns are. That person should be able to discuss with her what her areas of concern are and if any surgical procedure is right for her when she gets older. In addition, they might be able to suggest other alternatives to address her concerns that do not require surgery. Best of luck!

You should be at least 18 years old to be a candidate for plastic surgery.
In general, you need to be physically healthy and at a stable weight, have realistic expectations, be a non-smoker and your BMI needs to be 30 or less.
l recommend you to make an appointment with a board certified plastic surgeon to talk about your goals and anything you need to know.

majority of elective cosmetic surgeries are performed on adults, there are some
surgeries that are not uncommon to perform on teens, such as rhinoplasty or
breast reduction. However, a Brazilian butt lift is not one of them. Although your
daughter may appear to have stopped growing, adolescent individuals often
continue to grow well into their twenties, which could impact her final results.
Furthermore, your daughter may not comprehend the risks involved in the Brazilian
butt lift procedure or may have unrealistic expectations about what the
procedure can do for her. On the other hand, if your daughter struggles with
unusual body proportions that prevent her from feeling confident, it is
technically possible to get the surgery.

There is no age cut off for cosmetic surgery.   The question is always maturity, has she done everything she can to achieve the figure she wants on her own, and is she fully developed?  I have performed liposuction on women under 18 as well as rhinoplasty, chin augmentation and other surgeries.  She would need tobe evaluated in person to make a decision as to whether this is appropriate or not.

The question of how young is too young can not be answered without a consultation. I remember being 16 and bothered by something I had fixed at 35. I was wrong to wait. See a board certified plastic surgeon who has done a ton of Brazilian butt lifts, has privileges to perform plastic surgery at a local hospital, operates at a certified facility, and you will be in good hands. All surgeries carry risks, and operating on 16 year olds with maternal consent is controversial, but it's also a very private and individual decision. Choose your surgeon carefully and you (and more importantly) your daughter, will be in good hands. Good luck.

It is not the usual for someone at 16 to undergo such a procedure, although certainly other things like rhinoplasty and sometimes breast reduction have been performed on 15 and 16 year old young ladies. It would have to be determined on a case by case scenario but waiting until 18 or  even older  might be a good thing. 

there is no chronological reason why your daughter should not have surgery at the age of 16. However you should be very clear on what she wishes to achieve and if this is in her best interests.
