Is it better to have a rhinoplasty before or after liposuction procedures?

It depends on several factors, but I would suggest having your rhinoplasty first if you’re getting them done at the same time. Rhinoplasty is a much more complicated procedure, and it’s best to have your surgeon as mentally fresh as possible. Be sure to search around to find a board-certified facial plastic surgeon, and one that you’re comfortable with. The quality of the consultation will go a long way to determining this.Another factor that your consultation will determine is your medical history and whether your body can handle multiple procedures at once. It’s also a good opportunity to see more before-and-after pictures of your doctor’s previous work.

Liposuction could be performed together with liposuction. In my opinion it would theoretically be the safest to perform the rhinoplasty first. This is because it is, again theoretically, possible to produce a little bit of bacteremia during the rhinoplasty. This is when bacteria can enter the bloodstream. If this would happen it would again be theoretically possible for the bacteria to become lodged into the area where the liposuction was performed and possibly cause an infection. This is one reason why antibiotics are generally used during routine rhinoplasty. However, I would not want to be turning you on your side to do the lipo after the rhinoplasty, so I would want to limit the lipo to only areas that could be done while you were on your back (supine). Again, this is only a theoretical issue and my guess the risk wold be extremely small.

Your surgeon would likely prefer to do the rhinoplasty first since it is technically more demanding and would require most concentration.  

Thank you for your question.  My answer would be "Why not do both at the same time?"  Many times, it is better to undergo anesthesia once to avoid multiplying the risk of anesthetic administration.  In our practice, I perform a rhinoplasty while my partner, who specializes in breast and body, completes a different operation.  Obviously, the amount of surgery performed will be limited according to safe surgical standards, but if it is an option, this would be the most efficient.

There are many factors to consider but, I would do the procedure that bothers you most first. Remember that everyone sees your nose everyday and very few see the areas you want suctioned. Both areas have to have a real problem, a safe and predictable solution and the problem must bother you for this to be a reasonable surgery. Good luck.

If you will only be getting liposuction of your arms, it should not really matter which one you choose to do first.  However, sometimes patients have liposuction of the back and flanks which necessitates lying in the prone position (face down) during the procedure.  Even though the face is meticulously protected with padding while you are face down, I would prefer doing the liposuction first in this scenario.  This way, the nose is not at risk of having pressure placed on it during the liposuction.  
Then again, if you are only doing your arms, and your liposuction does not require you to lay in the prone position (face down), the order of surgeries will not matter.  

 I would do the procedure that bothers you most first.  Your surgeon can explain the procedure and recovery to you to help you decide.
