Hello Doctors- I am a very fit 29 year old and I have always had extremely vascular hands. I am 5'8 130 lbs- very low body fat. I use zinc sunscreen daily and protect my hands from the sun even while driving. -Question: what should I do to improve my large veins? Especially when I am hot or workout they become larger. Should I do fillers in my hands or is there a safe way to do vein injections?
Answer: Hand rejuvenation Juvaderm or any off the shelf filler maybe a very expensive way to hide the veins on the top of your hands. Fat grafting works very well and would give you significantly longer results. Usually it can be done with numbing medicine and takes about 1-1.5 hours. Removal of the veins is another option, but you would be removing veins that one day you may need for IV's. This may not seem to important given we have lots of other veins to use but I always like doing procedures that improve looks but minimize anatomic disruptions if possible. Sometime to think about. Good luck John S Mancoll,MD

Answer: Juvederm is not the best filler to treat vascular hands. Thank you for your question and photograph. Juvederm is not the best filler to treat vascular hands. Radiesse can improve the appearance of veiny hands as it immediately restores volume loss in the back of your hands for smooth and natural looking results. I recommend you see an expert to determine the best treatment plan for you. All the best!

Answer: Vascular Hands Thank you for your photo. Juvederm is a very injectable filler that is used in for areas of the body where additional volume is desired such as nasolabial folds and lips. Sclerotherapy is primarily used to treat spider veins on the legs. For large veins on the hand I would recommend using Radiesse, an FDA-approved dermal filler used for aging hands and veins. Please remember to seek treatment from a board-certified dermatologist.

Answer: Treatment for large veins on the hands You posted the question of whether to use injection of Juvederm or injection of a sclerosing agent in the veins. The answer is either or both can be done but experience with the vein injections reveals that many time they will recur over time. Of course the Juvederm will wear off in time as well. Usually I recommend using Radiesse as the filler, injecting with a cannula, and if the veins remain prominent after the Radiesse, then they can be injected with Asclera foam, (which usually is not necessary).
