Could the botox have caused a sinus infection? Did she freeze my sinuses?

I had botox done and the girl put an injection in the upper side of my nose. It burned when she did it and It was sore for about 2-3 weeks. I ended up with a very bad sinus and tooth infection and had taken 2 rounds of antibiotics but I am still having problems with my sinuses.

It’s unlikely that your sinus infection was caused by Botox and most likely a coincidence. I recommend following up with your primary care doctor or even ear nose and throat doctor about your sinus infection.  I recommend a formal consultation with a reputable and experienced cosmetic dermatologist to help you get the results you want.

Botox only acts locally on the muscles into which it was injected.  The sinuses are all bony covered and Botox does not penetrate the bone.  The sinuses of the cheek, between the eyes and forehead are all very deep and protected by the hard bony skeleton, so I think that your sinus problems are just a coincidence.  I would recommend being seen by an ENT doctor to further evaluate and work up your sinusitis.

Thank you for your question. Botox has not been directly linked to causing sinus infections, especially when injected with sterile technique and with proper skin prep prior to the injection. The sinus cavities are deeper than the dermis muscle where Botox is injected and should not be affected by the injection. Botox works primarily by blocking nerve impulses to certain muscles, not by 'freezing' them (in the usual sense). It is highly unlikely that your Botox treatment would cause a sinus infection. It is probably more of a coincidence in timing. We suggest starting with a visit to your family doctor and if they feel differently than follow up with your Botox provider.
