Great question! Generally, if only tip work is done, many surgeons will probably use tape only; however every surgeon is different. A cast is generally needed to hold the nasal bones in place if they were broken, for instance in this situation where the bridge is narrowed or straightened. However, I would go on a few consultations to see exactly what is needed to get you to the goals you desire.Best of luck and hope this information helps!- Dr. Roger Tsai @DrRogerTsaiBoard Certified Plastic Surgeon
Every surgeon has their own preference. I like to place a cast after rhinoplasty even if it's just the tip to minimize swelling. Usually the nasal skin needs to be elevated to see the cartilage underneath. This will lead to swelling which can travel up the nose.
Thank you for the great question. When only the tip of the nose is modified, a cast can sometimes be avoided. The nose will still need to be taped, however, so the benefit of not placing a cast (in terms of being less conspicuous) is minimal. In my practice, I still place a cast because I find that this reminds the patients to be extra careful with the nose. In addition, the cast can help manage the swelling to some extent. Recovery after a tip-only rhinoplasty is generally pretty easy. Most patients take a week off from work; there is certainly some swelling but there is minimal bruising for most patients. Best of luck and take care!
Hi and thanks for your question. In rhinoplasty thermoplastic cast is used for stability of the nasal bone. During the rhinoplasty, osteotomy is done for 2 aim; After removing the nasal hump , open roof is created on the nose, so this open roof is closed with osteotomy( cutting the nasal bone with ultrasonic device)If the bony base of the nose is too wide , it is decreased with osteotomy. If during the rhinoplasty, osteotomy is done , thermoplastic cast is used for stability of the nasal bone and this cast is removed 7-10 days after the surgery. If rhinoplasty contains only tip plasty, cast may not be used ,because there is no need for nasal bone stability.
There are a wide variety of alterations to the tip that range from the simple to complex. As far as splinting is concerned the surgeon will probably tape the tip to keep swelling down and possibly a splint as well for a period of time. Every surgeon has their own routine. Your surgeon can tell you what you can expect and your time for resuming activity.
Hello,Thank you for your question. A detailed examination can provide best options for you. A boulbosity might require certain treatment before surgery for achieving best results after the surgery. The whole nasal structures and proportions of a face should be taken into consideration while deciding for a final shape of a nose. A tip rhinoplasty lasts about 30-40 minutes. It is performed in a surgery room under either local or general anesthesia. It is a painless procedure. A cast is needed as well. A natural looking nose can be achieved by the help of the Closed and Atraumatic Rhinoplasty, which minimizes swelling and bruises, maximizes healing and prevents tissue damage. Hello and thank you for your question. How complicated a tip rhinoplasty procedure is depends on a wide variety of factors and varies from patient to patient. A qualified surgeon will be able to explain the complexity of your procedure—including all of the steps they will undertake—ahead of your surgery. Following your procedure, your surgeon may opt for a cast or splint if they deem it necessary. In some cases, tape alone may be sufficient. To learn more about rhinoplasty, schedule a consultation with a board-certified plastic surgeon. They will be able to evaluate your nose and answer all of your questions, including your concerns about the recovery process. Best of luck to you!Michael Eisemann M.D.Plastic SurgeonHouston, Texas
I usually cast or splint the nose after breaking the bones and manipulating them. For the tip, taping is often enough just to keep the shape and minimize swelling as you heal. A tip rhinoplasty can be easy or complicated depending on the amount of manipulation that is required for your cartilage and also if any grafting is needed as well. Hope this helps!Johnson C. the most complex part of a rhinoplasty is the tip work. So we can never say that tip work is simple but levels of complexity can vary. You may need tape or cast after surgery to help the skin stick down. Consult a rhinoplasty surgeon to discuss the details. Best wishes.
The far majority of patients must undergo a full Rhinoplasty, not just the tip-rhinoplasty to ensure all the components of the nose are balanced with themselves, and the entire new noses balances with the patient's facial features. If a tip-plasty only is being performed, a cast is not required.
