Juvedérm injections sitting above vermillion border? Is this normal? (photos)

Question

I had one syringe of juvéderm ultra plus placed in the upper and lower lip, but it appears as though the product was placed too high in my upper lip. I went back to my injector (a registered nurse with 20+ years of injecting experience) and she said the filler wasn’t placed too high, it’s just the way my lips look with filler. I’ve attached two photos of my lips now, and one photo before I had any filler in 2014.

The look you are concerned about may be from filler placement, but it appears you still have swelling.  It can take up to two weeks for the swelling to resolve.  If after that time you still are not satisfied with the result, return to your injector for an evaluation.  If you choose to do so hyaluronidase can be injected to dissolve the product.

Hello and thank you for you pictures! It looks like there may still be some swelling from the injection. Normally, it can take up to two weeks for any swelling to go down in order to see the final results. If you are still unsatisfied with your results, I recommend you return to your injector or a board certified plastic surgeon for an evaluation. They should be able to dissolve the filler with hylauronidase if you choose to do so.Best of luck!

Swelling can be typical after lip fillers. I would wait a full two weeks after your touch-up before assessing your results. If you're unhappy with your result, you can have the filler reversed with hyaluronidase. Hope this helps.

This may be due to filler placement, but you may have swelling, which can last 1-2 weeks after lip injections. If you're unhappy with your final results, you can have it reversed with hyaluronidase and try a different technique next time. See an expert. Best, Dr. Emer
