Is my Tummy tuck scar normal? (Photos)

Question

I'm ten weeks post op hysterectomy and full tummy tuck... I'm concerned about my scar just move the mons pubic area. It's bulging above me below and very tight. There is a Hard lump in the centre an the scar feels "tethered down".. At my Last check up the nurse said the scar tissues may be stuck on the abdominal wall but my surgeon won't comment about it until my next check up in 1 months time. My belly button is also very hard and scared she suggested I may need cortisone shots? Should I worry?

I appreciate your concerns, but at this point it is not too late to do scar therapy. If you're not using scar therapy and massaging your scar tissue, then you should start. I suggest you ask your plastic surgery office what product they recommend. Consider lymphatic massages and Arnica cream for the harder spots.Good luck. Dr. ALDO

Abdominoplasty scars can be quite complex, ranging from the simple hypertrophic scar to a multiplane inflamed keloid. Pigmentation, discoloration, chronic inflammation, scar visibility can all occur in the short term. We begin each treatment with combination therapy using Yellow broadband BBL, Vbeam, fractional erbium, intralesional IIT, and scar modulation. Start with a combination of Plato's Scar Serum massaged twice daily after one week of epithelialization followed by Luminase/Exfolase. Scar consultation and revision may be recommended.

Thank you for your question and photos. It is still early days to make an assessment on the cosmetic result however I can see that the scar appears retracted on the midline. I share the advice of the other colleague in recommending massaging the scar, at least, at this stage in view of following the rest of the instructions your surgeon will be able to give you when you will see him/her for your next appointment. Don't worry but keep a close eye on it.Andrea Marando MDCertified, European Board of Plastic Surgery  Member, Am. It is still very early in the postop phase and you need advice regarding massage / scar management and garments. This will improve but you need advice from your PS.
