Thank you so much for sharing with us your question.Your potassium level is a little low, your Surgeon need to check your test before surgery and give you her/his recommendations that will avoid any kind of complication in the Operation room. You can increase your potassium levels taking medication or eating vegetables and fruits in your diet. Contact your Surgeon if she/He does not know your potassium levels. It is very important all your levels no just the potassium are in normal conditions. Best of luck,Dr. Quiroz!
Dear Powerful3202,in order to avoid complications and get the best results, you should be healthy and your lab results should be within the normal range. It is best that you visit your plastic surgeon for further assessment. Only after thorough examination you can get proper recommendations and advice.Daniel Barrett, MDCertified, American Board of Plastic SurgeryMember, American Society of Plastic SurgeryMember, American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery
A normal potassium level is 3.5 -4.9. This is more of an anesthesia risk, but your PS will review your lab results and let you know if he/she is concerned and how to elevate it.
First, 3.2 is mildly low and not to be overly concerned with. If you are taking any medications that may cause you to lose potassium, then adjusting the medication or easier yet, supplemental potassium intake will solve this issue. you may simply increase your oral intake of food higher in potassium such as bananas, avocado, spinach, acorn squash...etc. You should repeat your potassium level a week before surgery to see if you are closer to the 3.4 level. If not, your surgeon still has time to give you potassium pills if necessary and repeat the exam once more.Best of luck.Dr T
