Hello, I plan to seek a board certified plastic surgeon. I work a job that requires me to lift heavy items, and I'm on my feet most of the time. Because of that, I need minimal downtime. I'm 39F, BMI approximately 28, and I've never had children. I plan to lose weight prior to my treatment. I'm considering some form of Vaser liposuction combined with a skin tightening procedure. However, I've noticed inconsistent results, where patients often look lumpy or uneven. Is this a common problem? I'm very afraid of being unhappy with the final result. I would consider a tummy tuck, but I'm afraid of the recovery time. How long before I could squat 60lbs?
Answer: Body contouring options The choice of procedure should be based at first having a clear understanding of what the underlying problem or ideology is. There are four tissue variables that determine what the abdomen looks like. Two of these are pregnancy related. Pregnancy related changes are going to be skin laxity, and or muscle separation. Skin laxity can also come from weight fluctuations but only pregnancy creates muscle separation. The two other variables are excess subcutaneous, fat and excess visceral fat. It looks like your abdominal wall has some bulging. Since you don’t have a history of pregnancies bulging of the abdominal wall, it’s most likely due to some excess visceral fat, which can only be reduced with weight loss Guy. The thickness of your subcutaneous fat is what determines how much of an improvement you can have from Liposuction. There is no effective skin tightening other than direct skin excision. No matter what the hype or device that’s being promoted nothing actually tighten skin except Cutting it leaving patients with significant scars i.e. full or minitummy tuck. Treatments like Renuvion a.k.a. J plasma or bodytite will leave you disappointed, and in reality Deliver no actual skin tightening, regardless of what people say or claim. Don’t believe the hype. I speak from firsthand experience on this. this means you’re left with basically only three options. Liposuction, mini tummy, tuck, or full tummy tuck. whether the scar justifies the skin tightening from abdominal skin surgery is something you’ll have to decide on your own kind. Because you don’t have muscle separation the benefit from a full tummy tuck will be less than for those who have both muscle separation and skin laxity. Liposuction resort very dramatically based on two variables. These two variables are pretty simple and straightforward. The first is patient candidacy and the second is provider selection. Ideal candidates for Liposuction are going to be young individuals who have tight skin and thick layers of subcutaneous fat guy. These patients have the potential for the greatest Liposuction results. The opposite is also true. Older individuals, and those who have skin laxity will not have the potential of getting Exceptional Liposuction results, regardless of who does the procedure. The second variable is provider selection. Delivering consistent quality Liposuction results is more difficult than most people realize. The number of plastic surgeons who approached mastery of Liposuction is in reality small. Average providers deliver average results and average Liposuction results are in reality not all that impressive. Only exceptional providers deliver exceptional results guide Finding the right plastic surgeon is much more difficult than most people realize guide Most patients are not good at choosing providers. To find the best provider, I recommend patient to the following. Start by having a complete set of body pictures to use as a reference. Always bring pictures of yourself to use as a reference during in person consultations. Rely exclusively an in person consultations and do not opt for virtual consultations. During each in person consultation, asked each provider to open up their portfolio and show you their entire collection of before, and after pictures of previous patients who have similar body characteristics to your own kind of This is we’re having pictures of yourself is helpful. Before and after pictures need to be of patient who have the same degree of skin laxity, the same degree of excess subcutaneous fat, are approximately the same age with the same pregnancy history, etc., etc. etc. Seeing results from patients who were much better candidates is not going to be helpful because the results are not representative of what you can obtain. Likewise, seeing only a handful of examples is completely insufficient to confirm what average results look like in the hands of each provider. As efficiently experience provider should have more before and after pictures for you to look at and you have time to during the consultation guide There should literally be no end to the number of before and after pictures for you to view. Any provider who has a limited collection of before and after pictures should be eliminated from your potential list, There’s no correct number of consultations needed to find the right provider. The more consultations you scheduled the more likely you are to find the better provider for your needs. Because there is such great difference in Liposuction skills among plastic surgeons I recommend patients have at least five or more consultations. Liposuction results are permanent and irreversible. If done poorly, patient can be left permanently disfigured. Look for plastic surgeons who love doing Liposuction and do it on a regular basis preferably full-time. When in doubt, slow down and schedule more consultations. The device used for the type of liposuction offered, makes no difference. The only variables that matter is provider selection and patient candidacy. If you focus your efforts on these two variables only you’ll be much better off than trying to figure out what type of Liposuction works better because that makes no difference. Do not shop for equipment. Shop for providers only. In their hands of the right provider, everything will fall into place In the hands of the wrong provider you’ll end up making a regretful decision. Provider selection is in the end, the most important variable, and where patients should put all of their effort guide the The only way to find the best provider is to meet with them in person and prevent them appropriately. This means you need to insist they show you many more before and after pictures than their Best outcomes. Good luck, Mats Hagstrom MD
