Your hemoglobin is too low and you should postpone your surgery. See a hematologist for best recommendations!Good luck! Dr. Aldo
It is not likely that you will be able to raise your hemoglobin levels to the needed level within a week. It can take 4-6 weeks after initiation of oral supplements for levels to begin to rise. Please closely follow your surgeon's advice for optimal outcomes.
I doubt you can raise your hemoglobin from 9.3 to 12 in one week without a transfusion. The more important question is why are you anemic? The most common reason in women is a low iron diet along with significant menstrual periods. Blood tests can determine if your anemia is from a lack of iron. More than likely your plastic surgeon will postpone your surgery until further workup and treatment of your anemia is complete. Best wishes.
It's not unusual to have a hemoglobin of 9.3, especially in a female after a menstrual cycle. Other common contributing factors are low iron, B12, & folate. We recommend a women's multivitamin with iron, as well as a B12 shot from your Plastic Surgeon or PCP.
Hi and thanks for such a good question. To raise your hemoglobin level as soon as you need to go and consult an hematologist and ask him for eritropoyectin hormone injections that can help you. Thank you for your question and images. I recommend for any procedure to have a hemoglobine levels around 13 or higher. I always recommend to my patients with lower level of hemoglobin iron with folic acid and prior surgery have another blood work to evaluate the physical health. All the best!
