Sex too soon after mommy makeover? 11 days post op.

Question

I just had a full mommy makeover. I am healing EXTREMELY well and my husband has been taking care of me to where I have literally had to do nothing at all. We have had gentle sex twice already which caused no pain. I’m so sorry for the tmi but he has also rubbed my breasts gently several times (again no pain) I have hardly any swelling and am walking upright and have a high pain tolerance. Is sex ok when it’s gentle at 11 days post op?? I’m so worried now

I usually tell my patients no sex for at least 6 weeks,but every surgeon has different post op care instructions, continue to follow up with your PS to discuss your concerns.

Thanks for this important question, which is best fielded by your operating PS.  Here's my general intimacy timetable: 1. BA alone, avoid grabbing and kissing incisions x 4 weeks; 2. BA/BL, 6-8 weeks or until all incisions are well sealed; 3. Lipoabdominoplasty, avoid truncal flexion in order to prevent seroma or disruption of muscle repair and external sutures x 4-6 weeks.  In the meantime, congratulations on your transformation and be careful, until you can confirm guidelines.

Your surgeon is the best one to advise you on this as he/she is most familiar with the details of your surgery and how you've been progressing through recovery.  I would recommend going slowly and continuing to be gentle as you are very early in your recovery.

Hello. The question about how soon is too soon for sex is a tough one because there is so much variability in this activity! And you have pointed out that you have very little pain... I would recommend taking it easy, and trying out some creative alternatives for another week... you don't want to risk any complications. It will be worth the wait!.

Congratulations on having undergone the tummy tuck procedure. Your plastic surgeon will always be your best resource when it comes to specific instructions in regards to returning to activities. Generally speaking, best  to limit strenuous activity for at least 4 weeks after tummy surgery, assuming you are doing well and there have been no complications.  
Concerns would include an increase in heart rate and the potential for bleeding. Muscle spasm may be painful. Obviously, significant pressure on the surgical site is not a good idea either. It is not uncommon for patients to report increased swelling that occurs after vigorous exercise (including sexual activity), even several months after tummy tuck surgery. 
Generally, care should be taken during the first two weeks after surgery not to allow for elevation of heart rate, blood pressure, and/or direct trauma/contact to the chest wall. Generally speaking, most my patients are able to return to lower body exercise at the 2 week post operative mark, wait to lift/run for about 4 to 6 weeks after surgery.  Other exercises, involving the pectoralis major muscles, may resume several months down the line, if not longer. 
In other words, start slow and "listen to your body" as you gradually progress in intensity/duration of all activities including sex and exercise. Best wishes.
