How long does swelling under the chin last after lipo of that area?

Bruising and swelling are normal in the suctioned areas of the neck and usually increase slightly after the removal of any tape or foam. The bruising will decrease over 3-4 weeks, but may last as long as 6 weeks. The majority of the swelling will be gone within the first 3-4 weeks. However it may take 6-9 months to disappear completely. The compression garment helps reduce the swelling, and the longer it is worn, the more quickly the process will proceed.

I have seen chin/neck liposuction patients recover in days with virtually no swelling at all.  On the other hand, I have to admit that it can be obvious for a few weeks that some procedure has taken place.  The typical patient looks like themselves pretty quickly after the procedure is done.  The issue sometimes becomes that either the patient or I know there is swelling - but the outside world has no idea.Unfortunately, I don't think there is much to do about prolonged swelling except watch your salt intake, maybe wear a garment at night, and wait.  Any other injections or procedures have very little roll in the recovery process.Good Luck!

 Most patients see almost  immediate benefit from liposuction with the acute swelling generally gone by two weeks. Final aesthetic results may take several months however. When liposuction is aided by a laser the thermal damage can prolong swelling.

Swelling under the chin is very common after liposuction. In some patients, it resolves more quickly, in others it takes longer. There are a number of factors responsible for this: the amount of fat removed, the elasticity of the skin, the liposuction technique used by the surgeon and individual healing rates which vary from person to person. Follow up with your surgeon to be sure you healing is on track.

Swelling can take a couple of months to resolve, and minor residual swelling can take a few months. However, most patients find that the majority goes away in a few weeks. So, wait it out for a couple more weeks.

Swelling post lipo can last for many months.  I have all my patients do botox in the neck and radiofrquency treatments such as velashape or venus to improve the results and decrease the swelling more quickly and give a better contour.  Best, Dr. Emer.

It is not normal to look worse at two weeks.  Please follow up with your plastic surgeon.Two weeks is still early for liposuction, but in general, the neck heals faster than other areas, and typically improvements are seen early.If the treatment was more aggressive or there was some bleeding, it can take much longer.Call your surgeon to address your concerns.Best of luck,Mats Hagstrom, M.D.
