Age 31, female, do you have any suggestions for Botox resistance?

Hello, I am a 31 year old female. I first received Botox at age 28. The first 4-5 times, it worked very well and I was quite "frozen". However, in the past year, I have noticed my face starts moving by week 3 and full movement by week 8. Very frustrating. I have tried the 3 other major brands as well and increased units. Someone suggested to me that perhaps my Covid vaccine has something to do with it. Has anyone experienced this issue with their patients? Any suggestions?

It is possible to develop "resistance" to Botox by developing antibodies to the particular type of toxin. However, this is quite rare. It is possible that you may need to increase the units to see a longer effect. The treatment to true Botox resistance is to try a different type of botulinum toxin.

Hello @jennycoconut24 thank you for your question. It is important to take into account that some organisms develop resistance to botox, causing the effect to be minimal and short-lived. For this reason, it is recommended to change the brand and to space application. You may be right about covid association and Botox. I have not seen it in my practice yet, but this problem was recently discussed in Telegraph UK. We just learning about many associations with the virus. True resistance is quite rare, and likely happens to the proteins, so switching to pure forms like Xeomin may help. The most common reason though is improper techniques, product or dilution. Some people truly have strong muscles and need more product. Hard to figure out what is the reason in your case, best advise would be to stick to one experienced provider and try to figure out what’s happening documenting procedures meticulously each time.
