It was suggested that instead of going for an SI joint fusion, a tummy tuck with muscle repair may solve the problem. I do not have any other spine or hip issues. My ab muscles are completely destroyed from my first pregnancy which ended in a c section. In doing my research, I realized that most repairs are done on the rectus abdominal muscles. If it is needed can the obliques be tightened as well? What issues can occur if the obliques are tightened? I have two kids and not having anymore.

Answer: Abdominoplasty effect on pelvic weakness There is no reason to suggest that an abdominoplasty would have much effect on SI joint dysfunction. The only clear thing the muscle sewing (plication) does is improve contour in most cases. Other suggested effects of that manuever have been somewhat hard to substantiate when they been studied. The most consistent effect I would say people notice is some inprovement with stress incontinence from pregnancy if they have it, presumably because the bladder neck is rotated forwards some by the increased pressure like what happens with a bladder tack surgery.

Answer: Tummy Tuck and Sacroiliac arthritis Unfortunately, there is no guarantee that a tummy tuck with repair of the diastasis recti will alleviate your back pain. You should proceed with the tummy tuck if you are a good candidate and desire to improve the contour of your tummy. I hope you will find another solution for your back issues.
