How long does it take the body to absorb excess saline after breast implant removal?

Question

I had 550cc saline breast implants removed 72 hours ago under local, with no lift or replacement, and very thin capsules left in. My surgeon popped the implants for easier removal. Most of the fluid was drained out before suturing the incisions closed, but I can feel and hear the excess saline left in my breasts gurgling and sloshing around when I move or push on them. How long does it take the body to absorb this saline left in the pocket? Thank you.

What you are hearing is likely fluid that is accumulating as a result of the surgery.  The body typically resorbs the fluid on its own.  If you do not notice an improvement or actually see the breast swelling, contact your surgeon for an examination.

It is normal for fluid to accumulate in a closed space after surgery, it is not the saline from the implants. A drain tube is often used to prevent this. You should see your surgeon for evaluation.

Thank you for your comments, and the actual saline from the implants is probably not what you are hearing. Usually the capsule or layer of scar tissue around the breast implant should be removed to help prevent a seroma from forming by helping the tissues adhere together and prevent a scar/fluid pocket from forming . A closed suction drain to seal down the tissues will help as well in some cases.  Be sure to see a follow up with your Board Certified Plastic Surgeon for check ups if this persists.

You actually may be hearing more air than fluid, and both will slowly absorb over the next few days. Continue to wear your compression bra as directed. If you feel you have a fair amount of fluid, please contact your surgeon.

The excess saline has probably already absorbed.  You may be collecting serous fluid in the pocket from the implant removal.  It would be best to contact your surgeon.
