I want to undergo a BBL procedure. I had a history of PE(pulmonary emboli) caused by depo vera in 2016 and was treated 6 months later. I’ve been cleared by my PCP( primary care) and cleared by a hematologist. Am I a good candidate for a Bbl procedure? If so where do you suggest I have one done?
Answer: Risk of PE with BBL Every surgery longer than 1 hour will put you at increased risk of pulmonary embolism, considering your history. However, with appropriate chemoprophylaxis with lovenox (blood thinner), and standard prophylaxes intra and post-operatively, extensive discussion with your surgeon about increased risks, you could proceed with your BBL. Good luck.

Answer: BBL candidate Dear Reserved161992, it is hard to tell for sure without an examination. Generally speaking, it is possible to get BBL after PE. If you are considering surgery, I would suggest you consult a board-certified plastic surgeon. Only after a thorough examination, you will get more information and recommendations. Answer: BBL candidate If you were cleared by both your PCP and hematologist, then you should be fine for a BBL procedure. I would take a full medical history, obtain several lab tests, record you Caprini score (used to determine blood clotting risks) and maybe use Heparin injection (anti clotting medication) prior to starting the procedure. You might entertain wearing medium pressure compressive leg stockings prior to the procedure and for a few days post op.

Answer: BBL after PE? Unfortunately, anyone who has had a DVT/PE in the past, is more likely to have a second one. This includes people who had their PE due to Hormones like DEPO, even if you have been off DEPO for a long time. When I proceed with doing a BBL (or any procedure requiring general anesthesia) for a patient with a history of a PE, they must be cleared by their PCP and Hematologist, as you have already been, and they must take a blood thinner for at least 30 days. You must also understand that blood thinners have their own risks.

Answer: H/o of PE a good candidate Just because you had a PE previously does not make you at more risk for a fat emboli, the worst complication of BBL surgery. You will require blood thinning medication that will be given during your surgery and afterwards. As such, you need to make sure that your blood count is appropriate as you will have more blood loss during surgery. Based on your pictures, you are an excellent candidate for a Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL). The optimal BBL outcomes are achieved with: 1) use of VASER liposuction to harvest the fat, 2) a closed looped system such as Puregraft to process the fat, and 3) strategic micro-packet transplant technique. These three processes have demonstrated over 95% fat graft take. This means that your results will be stable as long as you maintain your weight. As an official VASER trainer, I am routinely referred unhappy BBL patients. One of the most common reasons for disgruntled BBL patients is that patients are not able to accurately communicate their desired buttocks goals to their surgeons. A buttocks assessment tool can be an invaluable tool to communicate to your surgeon the exact buttocks size and shape you are desiring. A Skype or FaceTime consultation with a BBL specialist can help you get an accurate recommendation and pricing. Respectfully, Arian Mowlavi MD, FACS Realself 100 Hall of Fame Inductee
