Juvederm voluma gone bad? (photos)

Question

I had voluma places in my cheeks two weeks ago. I see no change of color like a bruise would change. It's getting worse each day. Is this normal bruising or the blue tint from the injection? What can be done. My doctor is telling me to wait?!

Thank you for your question. While bruising, swelling and redness can occur after Voluma, your bruising should not worsen over time. Your recovery should improve over time allowing you to resume your daily and weekly routines. I suggest that you move forward and consult with your board certified facial plastic surgeon. Thank you for sharing your question.  Though nothing replaces an in-person examination, this appears most like a bruise to the lower eyelid/upper cheek region.  At times when the bleeding involves the filler, it can persist for some time.  I would continue your current treatments and allow more time to pass, but your injector may have lasers available to help speed resolution.  You can also consider use of warm compresses, arnica gel topically and orally, and eating dark leafy green vegetables.  Hang in there!

Any bruising following injectables should improve with time, not get worse. I would suggest that you seek another in person opinion from a board certified plastic surgeon or cosmetic dermatologist to assess what is going on.

I am concerned that you say that the bruise is getting worse.  I would definitely consult a board certified cosmetic dermatologist to examine the area.  If it is just a bruise than Arnica and the V-Beam laser should help fix this quickly.  Best, Dr. Green

filler used to enhance the appearance of the face. With any injection there is a possibility bruising, which can last two weeks or more. In our office we treat bruises with a laser as early as the next day. This makes the bruise resolve faster. Please consult
with a doctor for specific recommendations.  Good luck!

This looks like bruising to me. However, I would go for an evaluation. Vascular occlusion would present almost always immediately and it would be pale skin. Sometimes, bruises can be treated with a laser to resolve faster. This had nothing to do with the product Voluma and is related to the injection.
