Damage by pressing down and massaging my face after Voluma?!

Question

12 days post voluma,upper cheeks.unhappy with my now-broad masculine cheeks.I pressed down the extra filled sides of my cheekbones & right below temples & gave my face a pretty harsh massage in hope filler'll dissipate.1 hr later, swoll terribly. Look like I have a huge tumor on each side. Areas feel so hot. iced, took arnica orally, and used topical arnica.c-ing my dr, who is out of town, tmw. but till then, could that be permanent damage to my own face, not just damage to the filler? plz help

Thank you for your question. Please discontinue massaging your face. The bruising may occur after Voluma but tends to subside after a short time period. I suggest that you record your recovery in a journal to share with your board certified facial plastic surgeon when they return.Best wishes,

Unfortunately, without photos it is really hard to know what is going on.  However, I would agree that you may have caused more swelling with the manual massage and would encourage you to not do anymore.  
If you are unhappy with your results, you really should go back to your injector and let them know that you are unhappy and why.

It sounds like you've caused additional swelling, which can take 1-2 weeks to resolve. If you're unhappy with your results, you can have it reversed with hyaluronidase and try a different technique next time. Best, Dr. Emer

Thank you for sharing your question and I am sorry that your results have not been what you anticipated.  The significant massasage and pressure has irritated the skin and soft tissues of your face which will take time to resolve. I would continue your current treatment to help the swelling resolve, while avoiding any further manipulation.  This will not cause permanent damage to your face but if you still do not like your filler results after another 1-2 weeks have your injector dissolve the Voluma.  Best wishes.

You need to back off on the massage. Continue with arnica and ice. The swelling should subside in the next few weeks. If not, you need to see your surgeon. Best of luck.

is a hyaluronic acid filler designed to restore lost volume in the face. I recommend that my patients avoid rigorous massage after a Voluma treatment as it can lead to swelling, which usually resolves over two weeks. If results are not what the patient desires Voluma can be dissolved with hyaluronidase. Please follow up with
your doctor for specific recommendations. Good luck!

This should subside with ice and time. This is not a good idea. The swelling is either related to trauma to the soft tissue or water being absorbed by the filler. Both these will be only a temporary problem and not a long term issue. If you are unhappy with the filler, hyaluronidase can be injected to dissolve it.
