Is Sculptra a good option for me?

Question

Hello, I am a 26F. A couple of years ago I hit 210 pounds then dropped down to 160 pounds over the course of one summer (3 months- 50 pounds). This resulted in flat cheeks and hollowness under my eyes that have since not gone away. I understand that Sculptra helps with volume restoration. I love the idea that it is slow-acting and a more 'organic' approach to volume restoration compared to dermal fillers. Would this be a good option for someone like me? Thanks

Hello, Sculptra would be a great option for you. Sculptra is made of poly -L-lactic acid and is designed to stimulate collagen production and improve facial volume and contours over time. Sculptra is not recommended for individuals with active skin infections, skin inflammation, or autoimmune disorders. The best candidates for Sculptra treatments are typically healthy adults who are experiencing mild to moderate signs of facial aging and volume loss.

Sculptra can be a great adjunct for volume replacement in patients who have had recent weight adjustments within their face. Be aware that it may take several treatments to achieve correction. An in office examination and discussion with a treating provider is recommended.

Yes, Sculptra is perfect for what you are trying to achieve with overall facial volume and cheek filling.  
Some of the benefits of Sculptra over other fillers include:
1. Slow collagen building over time.
2. Natural result with less chance of looking "overdone".
3. Longer duration than hyaluronic acid fillers.
4. Ability to address overall facial volume more economically over the long-term
Patience is key, as it takes 2-3 treatments spaced 4-8 weeks apart to see significant results.

For the under eye hollows, you will likely benefit from a traditional hyaluronic acid filler (Restylane-L if the preferred choice here).  Sculptra should not be used directly under or around the eyes or around the mouth because the risk of nodules is higher in these areas.

Sculptra should be an option for you based on your description.  It lasts longer than fillers and can give very natural looking results. The most organic approach to restoring volume of the face is when the patient undergoes fat grafting using their own fat. This procedure provides permanent and natural results. Sculptra is a wonderful product when the patient has no available fat for grafting. The problem with Sculptra is that it cannot be injected anywhere close to the eyelid because it can create very nasty granulomas. That is another reason why fat should be used.
