Would butt implants look ridiculous on a very petite, thin woman?

Intramuscular implants can improve volume by 400 cc or so, depending upon the size of the individual. A significant amount above this volume compromises healing by creating more tension on the healing incision.  Every patient will have some fat that can be used to shape the buttocks more precisely after the implant is placed. Schedule an in-office or Skype consultation with a board certified PS who is an expert in butt implants and BBLs to determine the appropriate size for your anatomy.

 The beauty of buttock implants is that they can be used on either very petite patients such as yourself or even significantly overweight patients at the opposite end of the spectrum. The key is to find an experienced buttock implant specialist plastic surgeon who is familiar with all the possible different shapes and sizes of patients anatomy, whom can then accurately and more precisely select the appropriate implant size AND shape for each individual patient. Finally, and possibly even more important than any of this above, do not allow any surgeon to put your implants in either the “on top of the muscle” or “subfascial” pocket. In these two positions (aka “pockets”) the implants will surely be visible even if fat grafting around them is attempted to camouflage them - this never helps. The “intra-muscular pocket” is by far the most reliable, durable, and realistic position to place the implants AND, if done correctly, will create the most natural and realistic buttock silhouette. Glad to be of help.

Thank you for your questions. As a matter of "looking ridiculous," that is a matter of personal opinion. What might seem ridiculous to one person might look great to another. If you are a very petite person with no viable fat donor sites, then implants might be the only option to increase the buttock volume and projection. Our experience with buttock implants in thin patients was not satisfactory. My first option in your case would be fat grafting. In person consultation with a board certified plastic surgeon who is familiar with both techniques is recommended. Good luck.

Dear Southernbird,   Posting the back and side view pictures of your butt would have been helpful. Butt implants come in many sizes and the smallest size that I know about is 190 cc. I have performed butt implants surgery on many petite Asian women and their desired implants size was between 290 cc to 430 cc.  There are 2 other important factors concerning the natural look :1. Oval round implants' shape. The butt is not round but rather oval, so choosing  round implants, as oppose to oval round will give you an unnatural bubble butt.2. Implants' pocket location. Sub fascial pocket allow dissection up to the posterior Iliac crest, where the gluteal muscles  is attached. This is not possible with the intra muscular pocket, which, again , creates an unnatural bubble butt look.   Always, consult with experienced board certified plastic surgeons who perform lots of butt implants surgery in accredited surgery center for your safety. Most importantly, check the before and after pictures in the photo gallery, to make sure that they are numerous,consistent and attractive with nice 'S' curve, nice projection, round hips and low, well hidden single  inter gluteal scar.                Best of luck,                                  Dr Widder

Thank you for sharing.  Size is one of the most important subjects to discuss at your in person consultation. The right surgeon will measure you and decide which size best fits your body type.  Choosing the right size implant is crucial to ensure the overall success of your procedure. Be sure to choose a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon that specializes in this procedure and is well known for it.

Intramuscular buttock implants will look the most natural and have the lowest risk of complications. The limited size of the intramuscular pocket will prevent you from looking 'ridiculous'. 

Liposuction and fat transfer does work in thin patients.  The key idea is that a small person needs less fat to make a change.  The other thing is that of the inpatient can have an extremely tiny waist and if you have a 1 inch waist 2 inch hips are outrageous.

 Implants come in different sizes so it's not the implant per se but the size of the implant chosen for that individual that gives a subtle or more  exaggerated appearance.  Most plastic surgeons don't offer this procedure. Have a few in person consultations with those who do if this is something you're interested in. Best, Mats Hagstrom MD
