Can intramuscular buttock implants rip through the muscle?

It is very rare that an intramuscular buttock implant rips through the muscle. When the buttock implant is inserted, the fascia on top of the buttock implant is closed usually with permanent or semi-permanent sutures. I have not had any cases where the buttock implant migrates or rips through the buttock muscle. Conceptually, buttock implants tearing through the gluteus maximus can happen, but it would have to have a tremendous amount of force to do so. The force that this would require would be something like a fall from 30- 40 feet. Once buttock implants are properly placed into the intra-muscular pocket, they cannot actually “rip through” the muscle and suddenly become on top of the muscle. However, like all implants in the body, there is some pressure atrophy (thinning out) of the overlying tissues to various degrees, this is especially true for implants that are placed above muscle instead of under or within muscle.
