Risk of nipple inversion with explant?

Question

30 yo female. 5’5” 140 lbs. 360/375 cc Natrelle implants put in Oct. 2020 along w/ mastopexy. Good skin elasticity. Decent amount of breast tissue before implants. I am planning on having an explant soon (I am experiencing symptoms of breast implant illness.) Wondering if there’s a big concern of nipples inverting after an implant removal if the removal is done with a second stage mastopexy. Is this a common side effect after explant or not seen too often?

I usually do not recommend 2nd stage mastopexy.  The mastopexy can be done at the same time as the implant removal, if necessary.  Nipple retraction should not occur.

Thank you for sharing your question.  There is a risk of nipple inversion but typically in those patients with little natural breast tissue.  Hope this helps.

nipple inversion can occur but it is a very rare complication. If you are considering a surgery, I would suggest you to consult a board-certified plastic surgeon. Only after a thorough examination you will get more information and recommendations.

Nipples actually inverting is not very common with implant removal, but breast tissue might do so, especially with large implants. Your surgeon who examined you may be able to give you a better idea of what you can expect.

Nipple inversion is a risk with implant removal, but it is a low one.  It occurs most frequently in those with minimal breast tissue prior to implants.  If you have good skin elasticity and decent natural breast tissue you should be ok.  I encourage you to discuss your concerns with your surgeon.
