Had my one week follow up yesterday. Doctor said everything is looking good. My incision and my new belly button are black. Is this normal? The doctor didn't seemed concerned.
Answer: Concerns about scar and bellybutton appearance From your photos, it looks like everything is healing nicely. If your belly button and scar is truly entirely black, that may be a sign of necrosis. It does not appear that way to me from your photos, but they are not of great quality. I strongly recommend you discuss this matter in detail with your surgeon. It is imperative that you seek the advice of a plastic surgeon who is certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and has extensive experience in tummy tuck / abdominoplasty. I wish you the best. Dr. Gabbay.

Answer: Black tissue is concerning but your photo doesn't show black as completely black tissue has lost its blood supply. You may have small areas of darkness but when limited to small areas, they go on to heal without issues. Your photo does not show any area of concern.

Answer: My incision and my new belly button are black. Is this normal? Congratulations on your recent tummy tuck. The "black" incision and belly button are most likely due to a dried up blood along the incision line. If your plastic surgeon has just seen you, your incision must be healing well without infection. Please follow your plastic surgeon' post-op instruction. Your overall abdominal contour, outcome, incision will improve with time.Good luck with your recovery.

Answer: My incision and my new belly button are black. Dear kjesperson,I'm am happy you just saw your doctor yesterday, and their lack of concern seem completely appropriate. I too would be quite pleased at your one week appearance! The black along the incisions is likely a combination of a little dried blood, scabbing, and residual surgical marking pen from surgery. These areas should all improve over the next couple of weeks. The color of the skin in the center of your belly button looks healthy and well vascularized. At your subsequent follow-ups recommendations of what to do for your incisions to get the best scar possible will likely be discussed. Congratulations, you look to be off to great start from your surgery!
