Can muscle repair come undone after tummy tuck? (Photo)

Question

I had a Tt with mr back in July. I've noticed when I do a "sit up" I get a bulge in my lower abdomen, and I can feel a gap from my incision down to my mons area. Did my mr come undone, or does it not get repaired that low on your stomach.

Your photos look fantastic! Your results from the picture is great. If you feel that you're having unusual bulging after doing sit ups, I would discuss the matter with your surgeon. It certainly is possible, Though rare, to have your muscle repair undone.It is imperative that you seek the advice of a plastic
surgeon who is certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and has
extensive experience in tummy tuck / abdominoplasty.

It would be unlikely for the repair to come undone. You would have notice a great deal of discomfort an a bulge in  your lower abdomen

During a traditional abdominoplasty, the rectus is plicated from the sternal notch (between the ribs, all the way down to the pubis).  Thus, this region should be tightened following surgery.It looks as though your surgery was recent.  It is prudent to give surgery time and have close follow up with your physician.  You can ask your physician at follow up to examine the region where there is possible weakness.  Good luck!

Dear Allison, Thank you for posting your before and after tummy tuck photos with your question. You appear to have a very nice improvement of your abdominal contour. Although uncommon, the abdominal rectus muscle sutures can become undone. Please return to your Board Certified Plastic Surgeon that performed your tummy tuck procedure so that you can be examined while you do a "sit up." Your plastic surgeon will be able to answer  your question and reassure you. If necessary, your surgeon could repair it and this, of course, would be a much smaller procedure than your original tummy tuck. Best wishes, Dr. Richard Swift
