New Stretch marks after Tummy tuck? (photos)

Question

Ok i am not sure if what i am seeing is newly form stretch marks (red streaks) or marks from the compression garmet or a rash. I am 3 weeks post opo. I also know those were not pre-existing. I am feeling a lil on edge because i didn't go through this to end up with more stretch marks than i did prior to the tummy tuck.

Thank you for your question and I am sorry that these marks are causing you concern.  Though it is difficult to determine their cause in your picture, some tummy tucks will worsen preexisting stretch marks that weren't evident until the skin is placed under tension.  If these lines on your abdomen are more raised in character and improve when not wearing your compression garment, they are likely the result of swelling.

It is very difficult to determine what the cause of these marks are? I recommend you discuss the matter with your surgeon.It is imperative that you seek the advice of a plastic
surgeon who is certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and has
extensive experience in tummy tuck / abdominoplasty.

Previous stretch marks (even if barely noticeable) are the path of least resistance for excess fluid to go to, so they always look worse during the healing process.  This is quite common and alarming to people who weren't told to expect it before surgery.  It will go down as your body gets rid of the extra fluids.  Just give it some time and wear your compression garments to help.-JGH

Hi, Redlady.It is highly unlikely that you got new stretch marks following tummy tuck.Most likely your pre-exisitng stretch marks may seem to be more prominent due to swelling.  It should improve with time.Good luck with you recovery.

The photo is not much help, but I seriously doubt you have new stretch marks. Most likely raised (formerly flat) stretch marks from the swelling in the skin. This will decrease over the next few weeks.

What appears in your one poorly posted photos are stretch marks that were present and now on 'stretch' following the TT. Best to see your chosen operative surgeon to explain this concept to you...

It is difficult to determine if your stretch marks are new or old on the image. Nonetheless, it is possible to form new stretch marks after tummy tuck but, in most cases, these are just pre-existing stretch marks that have been pulled down with the tummy tuck. Good luck!
