Is 20 cc enough to fix asymmetry in my case? (Photo)

For the record one tablespoon is 15 cc's, so 20 cc's isn't that much more. It is very difficult to determine the exact size and shape implant you will require to best match your ideal breast image without an examination by a board certified plastic surgeon. Not just any board certified plastic surgeon, but one with many years of frequently performing breast augmentation surgery including different approaches, techniques and implant choices. This is because several measurements not to mention your breast characteristics are needed to determine the optimal implant size to obtain your goals. Without knowing these dimensions it would be difficult to make this determination. For example, the existing base width of your breast will determine, in many cases, the maximal volume per implant profile that you can accommodate. To illustrate; a 100 cc difference may make a significant difference with a narrow base width breast, but much less of a difference if you have a wide chest wall and wide breast “foot print”. Therefore, just because your friend may have a great result with let’s say a 350 cc implant to make her go from a “A” cup to a “C” cup size does not mean that you will have the same result with the same size implant. . Further simply placing implants in a bra to determine the size best for you is not always accurate as the bra often distorts the size, is dependent on the pressure the bra places plus the implant is outside your breast and not under it among other variables. Computer software morphing programs that automatically determine the best implant size can be helpful in some but not all cases (e.g. doesn’t work well in my experience with existing implants, sagging or asymmetric breasts). Using “want to be” photos however are useful if simply provided to the surgeon as I will further explain in the below link.

Hello, it is not possible to tell based on photos alone whether your chosen implants will correct your asymmetry.  I find that even if differently-sized implants are selected very carefully by trying on sizers, some asymmetry will often remain.  I think this is because it is unlikely that two different implants will perfectly correct the pre-existing shape and volume difference.

When people ask if the implant "they are getting" will be the right size, I presume that their surgeons have determined that choice based upon examination, experience, computer modeling, voo doo or whatever pre-operative means are necessary.  Obviously, this is not based upon the use of intra-operative measurements or sizers.  If your surgeon has to order your implants ahead of time, and has no consignment implants to choose from, then you will have to trust their pre-operative assessment alone will satisfy your desires.  If you don't trust their choice, then you will ask questions on the internet.   I prefer to be able to make the final choice after using intra-operative measurements as well, and can do so because of our availability of consignment implants in a wide variety of sizes and shapes.

Hi.  It's quite difficult to see your breast asymmetriy from the posted photos. Remember 20cc is about 4 teaspoons. That's not much of a volume difference. Dr. B

It is difficult to answer your question from your photo and without an in-person exam.  If your surgeon is a board certified plastic surgeon then I'd encourage you to trust their judgement.  Correcting asymmetry can be difficult at a different sized implant also has a different base width.  I tend to do small corrections when choosing different sized implants.  Talk to your surgeon about your concerns.  Best wishes.

The 20cc difference is hard to call on a photo, and we rarely decide on the implant size until the procedure, though we will take great effort to know the look our patients are after. Sizers during surgery can help us get things right, otherwise it can be a guess.

20cc is not a lot, and it would only improve a small difference between the breasts. Keep in mind that it is impossible to correct asymmetries completely, and that it is perfectly normal to have one breast slightly bigger than the other. The best results when different sizes of implants are planned are normal achieved using sizers during the procedure, to visually confirm what is the best volume for the correction.

The only way to know is trial and error. I offer my patients intra-operative sizers. So I actually try different sizes into the patient and sit them up and look. Otherwise its all guess work.  Ask you surgeon if he/she offers this. BodyReshaping.com
