Thanks for your question about lower body lift vs belt lipectomy. They are the same procedure. They both remove excess skin circumstantially around the body. So you get a tummy tuck and buttock lift in once procedure. Best of luck!
As a board-certified plastic surgeon, I understand your interest in clarifying the similarities between a lower body lift and a belt lipectomy. Indeed, both procedures share several common elements and aims, although there are subtle differences in their scope and emphasis. Both a lower body lift and a belt lipectomy are designed to provide comprehensive contouring of the lower torso by addressing excess skin and fat in the abdominal, lower back, and buttock areas. The primary difference between the two procedures lies in the terminology and the specific focus of each.A lower body lift traditionally encompasses the following components:-An extended abdominoplasty that addresses not only the front of the abdomen but also continues around the sides and back, providing a comprehensive contouring effect.-Removal of excess skin and fat from the lower back area.-Lifting and reshaping of the hips and buttocks. On the other hand, a belt lipectomy, as the name suggests, places a greater emphasis on the removal of excess fat (lipectomy) in addition to the excess skin. While the procedure still addresses the same areas as a lower body lift, its focus is on achieving a more contoured appearance by targeting adipose tissue.Despite these subtle differences, the choice between a lower body lift and a belt lipectomy ultimately depends on your individual needs, goals, and the specific recommendations of your plastic surgeon. It is important to consult with a board-certified plastic surgeon who can evaluate your unique situation, discuss the most appropriate procedure for you, and provide a personalized surgical plan. Open communication with your surgeon will ensure a successful outcome and address any questions or concerns you may have.I perform lower body lifts far-more frequently, as it gives patients optimal results.Thank you for your question regarding the difference between a lower body lift and a belt lipectomy.Sincerely,Ariel
Hello and thank you for the question. Lower body lift and belt lipectomy both refer to a surgical procedure designed to remove loose skin and improve the contours of the lower portion of the torso. The procedure offers additional correction over a standard tummy tuck, which focuses on the front of the midsection. This procedure involves incisions that go around the entire midsection of the body so that all areas below the waist can be addressed. The surgery is customised to the unique needs of each patient and may address the abdomen, flanks and hips, buttocks and thighs. It is commonly performed on patients who have lost a significant amount of weight and have folds of skin that did not conform to the new body contour. Because the surgery is extensive, it is essential to choose a plastic surgeon with the qualifications and experience to perform this procedure well. Best wishes on a successful surgery!- Morris Ritz, MB, BCh, FRACS
A lower body lift and belt lipectomy are one of the same. The amount of lift of the thighs and lower back is dependent on how the fat and fascia are repositionined / removed and the placement of the scars. Best to see a PS and look through previous images of previous patients to see what can be achieved.
Thanks for your question.Yes, indeed the belt lipectomy and lower body lift are the same thing. Different terminology for the same operation is quite common in the field of plastic surgery. Both operations address excess skin and contour of the outer thigh and backside. Hope that helps clear things up!
This is an excellent question. Lower body lift and a belt lipectomy are one in the same thing. This is yet another example of how plastic surgeons unnecessarily use multiple and confusing different terms to describe the same thing. For this reason, when I am describing this operation, I describe it based on its components which are most typically an abdominoplasty plus an outer thigh and buttock lift.
The Belt Lipectomy and the Lower Body Lift are often used interchangeably. What the operation is called really does not matter. The important thing is to discuss with your surgeon the areas that you want to have improved and the surgery can address those areas. Weight usually results in excess skin and laxity of the stomach, lower back, flanks or waistline, thighs and buttocks. The surgery is done dependent upon the particular areas that you want improved.
Thank you for your awesome question! Without the benefit of knowing your full health history and an in person exam it's impossible to say for certain. Talk to your surgeon & discuss your concerns. I would recommend you have an in person consultation with a plastic surgeon with these credentials: *Board Certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery -- The gold star symbol *A member of the ASPS (American Society of Plastic Surgeons) -- The circle symbol *A member of the ASAPS (American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons) -- the Queen Nefertitti symbol with a Triangle *On faculty at local plastic surgery teaching program -- affiliated with both Duke and UNC schools of plastic surgery. I hope this is helpful and wish you all the best in your journey. My sincere best, Brian S. Coan, MD, FACS
A belt lipectomy removes skin and fat around the waist without much relocation of the tissues inferior to the waist.A lower body lift on the other hand involve the raising of a flap of tissue lower than the waist line and re-positioning that tissue more superiorly. It can involve shifting of flaps of fat to give a more pleasing contour to the tissue involved. In other words, the LBL involves a lot more involved dissection and operative time than a simple belt lipectome
Hello and thank you for your question. I've answered this question quite a few times in the past.Firstly they are very different procedures, although many plastic surgeons use the the term synonymously .A belt lipectomy as described by the surgeon who first described it, consists of a circumferential incision high in the waist especially jn the back.It results in elongated buttocks and an unnaturally cycled waistline.Auto augmentation of the buttocks cannot be performed with this technique. A lower body lift using my techniques also consists of a circumferential incision but much lower in the back. This allows for auto augmentation of the buttocks and in my hands the hips. It does not elongate the buttocks but does flatten them if auto augmentation is not performed. Both can and often will lead to a boxy, square masculinized look if auto augmentation is not performed.Peter Fisher M.D
