Swollen nose after alar base reduction. Is this normal?

Agreed after any type of surgery there is a period of time when swelling occurs - specifically after a nose procedure the swelling can take up to a year to go down but most evident in the first 2 months.

Hello,Swelling after any rhinoplasty is extremely normal. It usually takes 1-3 years for the swelling to fully go down after a rhinoplasty. The tip takes the longest time to heal and mold to the new framework because it is the thickest skin of the nose. Swelling after any facial procedure is very normal.  The face, and especially the nose, is a very vascular structure with TONS of tiny blood vessels.  Hence...swelling.  Consider, head elevation, cold packs, arnica....BUT, check with your surgeon FIRST

The swelling is common. Keep your head elevated and it will resolve. Sleep with your head elevated. You did not mention how long it has been since you had the procedure. Be sure you don't have a fever. Speak to your surgeon.All the best,Talmage Raine MD
