Hello Doctors, A surgeon I would like to use only has 4 year experience. He was certified in 2020 and received another unknown certification per the American board association in 2024. Should I consider having a doctor with only 4 years experience perform an arm lift on me or should I go with someone with more years of experience? Does it matter?

Answer: Expertise Matters Your surgeon should be board certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery. If this is the case, he or she likely has the expertise to deliver excellent results in a safe manner. I would check the additional board certifications as well as the ASPS website to ensure that they are actually board certified, and if they are then it is safe to proceed without reservation if otherwise their reputation, etc. is good.

Answer: Experience matters more than time practicing. Hello Tstockhausen, I would tell you to research the surgeon you want to go to as thoroughly as possible. In our field of work, the training we had, and the surgeries we do on a daily basis matter more than the amount of years of practice we've had. If a surgeon does arm lifts frequently, and has many cases of experience, he may even be better than a surgeon who only performs one every few months, even if they've been in practice for 15-20 years. I always recommend my patients to go with a surgeon who they feel they can trust, and who makes sense in the recommendations they give. I hope that makes sense to you. Have a great day!
