New gurgling, bubbling sound/feeling in chest 8 weeks after breast augmentation.

Question

This is something that just started happening a week ago when I bend over or stand up. I didn’t feel it in the first 7 weeks after getting 400cc smooth round silicone implants. Should I be concerned?

These sounds are commonly heard up to a few weeks post operative after a breast augmentation, it's possible for both air and fluid to be trapped inside the pocket around the implant. I would alert your surgeon with your concerns, typically these sounds should no longer be heard at 7 weeks post-op. It's possible there may be trapped fluid remaining in the pocket that your body was unable to absorb, a seroma, this type of fluid collection can be treated by your surgeon.

Thank you for your question.  Although it is always best to follow-up with your plastic surgeon, the sounds that you are referring to are quite common and often due to antibiotic irrigation solution used during breast augmentation.  These sounds and sensations will subside as healing progresses.  Best of luck.

It is not uncommon to feel or hear some sounds as the implant moves in the pocket.  These sounds may occur due to some residual fluid or blood that may be sitting in the pocket following the surgery.  Over time the fluid is absorbed by the body and should improve.  Let your surgeon check you during a visit to assure there is nothing else to be concerned about.

Bubbling and gurgling sounds are not uncommon early into the post-operative course. You are still in the healing process and your implants probably hasn't settled into the pockets yet. It takes about 6 months for your body to fully recover and only by then will you see your final results. Always follow-up with your surgeon and follow his/her instructions to avoid complications.

The gurgling sounds that you are hearing when you move your breast implants are likely related to some residual fluid within the breast implant pocket. This is something that usually resolves with time, but if you have fevers, increased pain, or redness to the breast, you should seek medical attention immediately.
