Is it okay to do Ultherapy again?

Ultherapy is not a laser, it is ultrasound.  After the first session of Ultherapy, I allow my patients to treat specific areas a second time, six months later if desired.   Then, annual treatments can be done to maintain results.  If volume loss is an issue for my thinner patients, I may recommend Ultherapy every two years and utilizing radio frequency or laser to treat skin laxity in between.  Lasers will treat more superficial layers of the skin and are unlikely to affect the subcutaneous tissue.  Combining therapies is always a great idea for “wow” results, keep up the good work!

It would be safe to have the Ultherapy treatment done yearly. This is a non invasive treatment that is Ultrasound based.

Since Ultherapy® is based on ultrasound technology which has enjoyed decades of safely in the medical arena, it is safe to have the treatment yearly, since you enjoyed the results so much. The other lasers are fine for monthly maintenance as well, if your board-certified aesthetic dermatologist recommends it.

Suggested maintenance for Ultherapy is every 1 to 3 years, depending on the individual patient. Without a photo, it is difficult to tell whether it would be beneficial to do it again at this time.

Thanks for your question. It is a bit complicated to answer. The company recommendation is that final results can take up to 6 months to become apparent. However the vast majority of Ulthera providers agree that there are many patients who continue to see positive changes for up to a year or longer. Thus, the ideal time to repeat an ulthera treatment likely differs from patient to patient depending on their response and the longevity of their response. Since it is a gradual process this can be a bit difficult to discern and requires frequent photographs and analysis. Once a determination has been made that there is likely very little response still occurring; that is probably the best time for a repeat procedure. In my opinion for the vast majority of patients this will fall into the 1-3 year range with some patients possibly benefiting earlier and some patients probably better off waiting. Like most things in medicine it rare that one rule or algorithm works for every patient. Hope this helps.

Hello and thank you for your question! We recommend to our
patients that the maintenance for Ultherapy is every 1-3 years, dependent on
many factors. For example, how much laxity they started with, the condition of
their skin, what their desired outcome in, how they are aging, etc. I have done
subsequent Ultherapy treatments as soon as 3-4 months after the 1st,
in patients who desire the most dramatic result, and are less concerned with
costs etc. I have not seen or heard of any side effects or issues with doing
subsequent treatments, esp after about a year. That is a great time to have
your 2nd treatment. In addition, IPL based treatments can be done
every months for several months in a row, without any issues, and in fact,
providing great results in brown and red discolorations. IPL is treating just
the top layers of the skin, where those superficial discoloration lie. So it
works great with Ultherapy, which treatment the deeper layers of the tissue,
down the 4.5 mm depth. We do a unique approach in our office, where we use 3 different transducers on each patient, and do an very comprehensive and customized treatment. Laying in a lot of "lines" , therefore maximizing the results for each patient. With this technique, our patients are seeing results early, often after a month, and we are seeing more dramatic results using this technique.
