A CT Scan Imagery to Plastic Surgery Consult? (Photos)

Question

I have a plastic surgery consultation approaching for liposuction. I had a CT scan done because I have IBS - distended stomach. Should I bring my CT Scan imagery for the doctor - will this make it easier for her to determine how much of my stomach is fat vs. IBS distention. Or is there a way the doctor can still measure how much is "IBS Gut" vs. fat. (When I grab my stomach, I don't have that much to pull and when I lay on my back my stomach is flat and you can see my muscles)

Thanks for your question and photos. I don't think it will be of benefit to bring your CT scan to your appt. because your PS should be able to tell if you're a good lipo candidate based on physical exam alone. Based on the pictures you provided, it doesn't look like you have much extra subcutaneous fat to be removed. Your in person exam will be very helpful in addressing your concerns. Best wishes!!

best advice you can receive is from an in-person consultation.  I agree with your thoughts of bringing the CT scan.  This can be helpful.  Make sure you
specifically look at before and after pictures of real patients who have
had this surgery performed by your surgeon and evaluate their
results.   The most important aspect is to find a surgeon you are

Most surgeons welcome as much info as possible when meeting new patients. By all means, bring CT report, and any other material related to all of your medical conditions. Be sure to consult with a board certified plastic surgeon. Good luck!

It is OK to bring the CT to your consultation but it may not

be necessary to asses if you  are a liposuction candidate.

Any information you have available will help you and your board certified plastic surgeon determine the best plan for you. Since you have already had a CT scan, you should bring it. If you have it on CD or DVD I'd say by all means bring it to the consult.  A radiology report will be less useful.  I would certainly review the scan with the patient if available.

Who doesn't want more information when planning for surgery?  A board certified plastic surgeon will have the abilities to review the CT scan where some other practitioners offering liposuction, specifically non surgeons, will not necessarily possess those skills.

Liposuction can only treat the subcutaneous fat. If you do not have much, then liposuction may not help.
